Fair trade, basically trading for a backup with a small chance of upside

I know the wings are in a cap crunch and probably had to make this trade, but how to you only get two mid-round conditional picks AND retain 50% salary for the rest of the season on a young starting goalie? I know he hasn't performed great this year, but he was nowhere near a lost cause.

Printer stop saying hes a young, promising goalie. Hes sheet, and will always be sheet. Only reason a team wanted him was because their starter and backup got injured

He isn't the Goalie he was 2 years ago and has attitude problems

Wasnt it you who said that Lyon was just as good as Mrazek? (I might be mistaking you with someone else)

I did not. I don't have a strong opinion on Lyon other than his upside is basically whatever his capabilities are right now.

Im just going to wait until I hear the conditions before i say who wins, but im going with Detroit right now, Although Philly needed a goalie regardless so its really a win-win

Mrazek is not the goalie of the future that he was supposed to be a few years ago. His development has stalled tremendously, and this is simply a short term solution as the backup goalie. Best case scenario for the Flyers, he shows the stuff that he had a few years back with the Wings and they have a decent starter until Hart is ready.

If that's the case, then we'll never hear the end about how great Hextall is shakes head

I know isn't near the goalie he was two years ago, but he's only 25, which is relatively young for a goalie. He can still rebound and be at least an average goaltender, which can be hard to find in the NHL today. And when a report says someone has attitude problems, it could be for many reasons, including when said player isn't doing well, which he wasn't. I wouldn't read too much into those reports.

Because the 50% retained is only paying like 600k and not $2M.

He won't be here after this year unless neuvirth is traded and he takes a pay cut

TBH Neuvirth is the better goalie anyways

This is pretty good from a detroit perspective; they got a couple of picks that could improve for a goalie they may have decided to not qualify (simply due to the high salary and his role on the team).

So this trade could be anything from "Mrazek for a 2018 4th", to "Mrazek for a 2018 2nd + 2019 3rd". The former is a great deal for Philly and a necessary one for Detroit; the latter is phenomenal for Detroit, and means good things for Philly (and Mrazek!), too. Fun trade!

Philly is not going to carry Elliott, Neuvirth, and Mrazek next year so I can see Philly not signing him so they don’t have to give that extra pick to Detroit

realistically detroit is only getting a 4th. They arent making CF (if they do, it sure as hell wont be Mrazek getting them there). They wont resign him because that will cost them a 3rd. Its an easy win for philly based on the conditions

It looks like a lot to give up but it's not because Philly would only be giving up the better picks if he plays really well there and they play really well, which would make it a win for them, and they needed a goalie so Mrazek does that for them. Also, Detroit could get some good picks here, but overall, it's a good deal for them even if they only get a 4th, he's struggled there a bit. It's a win-win in my opinion. smile

I think it looks good for both teams. Detroit gets 2 picks for their rebuild and Philly gets a good goalie to help them in the playoff race.
