Leafs win by getting rid of the albatross contract. It'll be interesting to see Phaneuf with Karlsson.

I think Leafs won as well. Short term contracts that will fill roster while their prospects develop. Once the prospects are at their prime, Cowen, Greening and michalek's contract will be up. And, Leafs got Lindberg who is another awesome prospect that will help the Leafs in the future!
That 2017 2nd round pick can turn into something great too. All around pretty solid deal for the Leafs imo

This is a good trade for Ottawa for right now but in the longterm this is a very good trade for Toronto. A classic hockey trade.

Good move by Toronto by shedding that huge Phaneuf contract. And Cowen could turn into something really special for the blue and white.

Starting this year the Leafs have an extra 6m without Phanuef, and next year it's 7 m for three years. So, you can't really look at the players in the trade, it's how the Leafs spend that new found cap.

It's similar to the Kessel trade. The Leafs got Kapanen and 1st rounder and 6.8m in cap space for I believe 6 years. So it's how the Leafs spend that 6.8m is the key to the trade. And the reality is Kessel had turned into a poor NHL player late in Leaf career. He revived his career with the Pens, but no way he was ever going to be good in Toronto.

Basically, this turned out to be Phaneuf for a 2nd (Rasanen). Leafs win.

How can you say Leafs win when their best player hasn't even played an NHL game yet? As of right now Sens win simply because they got NHL production from this trade.

So, Ottawa spends a 2nd round pick, only to have Phaneuf dumped on them.

Everything else in this trade are fillers.

Toronto wins.
