Could be Kuemper for Reider if Arizona claims Wedgewood lol

Doesn't really make sense that they would do that. But I do feel like there has to be a team somewhere that could use him. It's not like Wedgewood is old or playing bad. And he's on a very team friendly contract.

Why not? Hes still a very good AHL starter

Because they already have five signed goalies in their system. If they thought Wedgewood was part of the future, they wouldn't have moved him in the Rieder deal. Instead they wanted Raanta and Kuemper as a tandem for the future.

Doesn't make sense to give a 25-yr old goalie starts in the AHL when you have 20-22yr olds already getting the starts there. Especially when they aren't a playoff team and could use him for depth.

I thought I read this wrong at first. This trade makes zero sense for Arizona. The Kings run out like thieves.

Wedgewood cleared waivers and Rieder didn't get qualified. Suffice it to say that nobody saw those coming. This worked out well for ARI after all.

and now Wedgewood is in the AHL and Reider still hasnt scored a goal while Kuemper is leading this team towards the playoffs Chayka makes a lot of trades that look like a win for the other team and turn out to be a win for the him

a seemingly small trade that got blown out of proportion first and then completely turned around. beautiful. I wonder if people will give Chayka credit for this.

To be fair Kuemper has put up Elite numbers this year but its behind LA

Guess it wasn't just behind the Kings defense, he really was an NHL caliber goaltender!

Funny how many idiots thought Kings won this or Wedgewood who they released after trade or put on waivers would be key... Ask Oilers how REider cost them making playoffs by not scoring enough goals like they hoped he would smile. Blake has lost every single trade he has made for LAK by far in most cases too smile...

A top 5 goalie in the league for an AHL goalie and a guy who has 8 goals in 142 games since the trade. And everyone thought LA won the trade at first.

This is easily one of the worst trades of the past few years.

As much as I enjoy looking back on how wrong people were, I did do a double take, as I thought this was the Coyotes trading Kuemper to the Devils for Wedgewood 😂

this is perfect example of how random goaltending is. not a person in the world saw kuemper coming.

I'm confused ... did Arizona seriously do this?

Out of curiousity, why?

I wasn't as big a hockey fan at this trade as I am now so I don't know the context of this trade.

I honestly don't remember, but taking a look at Rieder, he was a 30-40 PT winger just entering his prime and Kuemper was a backup goalie that I wasn't convinced would ever be a starter. Rieder immediately plummeted and Kuemper put up 1 good season as a starter (obviously injuries played a factor)

At the time, ARI traded a promising winger + a backup goalie for a different backup goalie. Given what we knew about each player then, it didn't make any sense for ARI.

However, Rieder fell off a cliff and Kuemper blossomed in a starter role, while Wedgewood was sent to the minors unclaimed. I'm not ashamed to admit I was wrong about this trade; I did love Kuemper with MIN, but I never thought he would be anything more than a fringe starter.

Yep! He was the backup goalie and looked decent when pressed into a higher workload. But he was just decent, so I didn't expect him to ever be a viable starter. I'm glad I was wrong!

I looked up his trade history and he wasn't traded from the wild. How did he end up in LA then?
