It would make little sense for the Oilers to go so big on a deal where they are only getting Karlsson for 1 playoff run, maybe, since they are not making the playoffs this season. Also, not sure how resigning Karlsson would even begin to work, since there is already so much money now tied up in big contracts even before considering the fact that you'd have to take on Bobby Ryan.

The perfect Oilers scenario would be trading for Karlsson on or after July 1st so they could at least get a long term extension guaranteed with Karlsson before selling off any important pieces. That would suck, since shopping is usually done by either deadline day or on draft day. Timing does not seem to match up in that regard.
