Decent price for a pretty good goal-scoring rental winger. Interesting to see the Devils get help from their hated rivals.

How is this literally the first trade that the Devils and the Rangers have ever made?

Rangers got exactly what they were asking for, 2nd + prospect. So I guess fair deal.

I personally think Grabner was worth more

Must have liked Rykov in juniors. Could be a gem once he's able to compete more effectively with adults.

Looks pretty fair ... as a Rangers fan i'm pretty happy about the deal, because Grabner may return to NYR next season, and even if he doesn't, they still got a good return. However, the Devils did good here too, adding a fast winger who can help score.

WTF is Shero doing? Says he won't move pieces to get a rental; goes and gets a rental, who will not resign, for a second round pick in a deep draft. The Devils might not even make the playoffs this year and Shero throwing away the future picks and young player, not to mention a LHDman, for nothing. There is absolutely nothing good that will come from this trade for the Devils.

That's fair, if he does resign it does shift the balance more to NJ. I just don't get why Shero is adding an older guy (30) when this whole year it's been about promoting youth. But who knows; Shero hasn't done much wrong since taking over the Devils.

I don't see a huge incentive for the Devils to do this unless he resigns. It's not like they become Cup contenders with him, and they had an excellent shot at making the playoffs before adding him. Yeah, it's good to get a young team like that playoff experience, but I'd rather keep my draft pick in a deep draft.

This trade could also have more to do with revenue than “winning the cup” or “building for the future”. The Devils making the playoffs and even winning one or two series increases a teams revenues tromendously. It increase the fan base and gets people more excited. Maybe the price they paid for Grabner helping them make the playoffs and winning a round is worth the financial changes?

It could also be to make the playoffs and show you can be competitive (like TOR last year) and maybe entice some FAs this summer maybe like John Carlson?

Fair deal, both teams got what they were looking for. Also I wanted to point out that the Devils and Rags can make a trade. As I have had lots of people tell me that they would never make a trade because of their rivalry.

I'd give the edge to the Devils. Grabner has speed, kill penalties, and he can score at even strength. Devils have some trouble getting scoring from forwards not named Hall, Hischier, and Bratt. This could help harness some depth scoring.

And to get Grabner, they give up a 2nd and a defenseman that may or may not even come over from the KHL; yes, I know it's a little stereotypical since he's Russian and all, but he plays for the top KHL team in his home country, so it wouldn't surprise me if he never makes the jump.

Although, Buchnevich and Rykov both played for SKA St. Pete in the same season (not sure if they ever played together), so there could be some incentive to get him over to NA. Rangers goalie prospect Igor Shestyorkin also plays for SKA St. Pete, so there's some commonality right there.

Makes sense, Grabner will be a nice add for Jersey. Still not sure they’ll sneak into the playoffs, would be cool to see though.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the Devils sitting in the first Wild Card spot 5 points up, either even games or games in hand on the teams behind them? Seems to me they're dealing from a position of strength. I was hoping Grabner would go to my Avs, but it seems Sakic is trying to be patient again with his trades. Paid off for Duchene deal.

Heres a cool statistic : Grabner is the 2nd highest scorer while playing 5v5 since the start of last season (50)
