NSH has the best D core in the league, they don't need to improve there. If anything they should add up front and with Tolvanens arrival for the playoffs, that should do it. But If they go out and get someone, it should be Zuccarrello.

Giving up all those assets for an older Karlsson is a backwards philosophy only because they don't have any holes on D. When the time comes, they should trade Ellis and PK for draft picks and prospects and THEN plug in Fabbro and Carrier to replace them.

IMO they are favorites to win the cup already, they don't need Karlsson.

Karlsson isn't even that old. Sure Tolvanen is really good but it's Erik ******* Karlsson. One does not simply turn down the opportunity to get him

Fair point but at some point, you have to say it's Erik Karlsson and make a trade

That's too steep for me if I am Nashville. If I was Ottawa, I would accept that or try to get Ekholm over Ellis.

I actually think this is a reasonable offer. If you're Nashville, why not go for broke this year and make your top 4 elite with a capital E. Frankly, you could even trade him post-playoffs @ the draft if you win the Cup and recoup some of the assets you just lost.

Just go for OEL if you desperately want to improve the D. He'll cost you less and will cost less to resign.

That is an option, but the only downside is (perhaps a stretch) other GMs might play the "I'll just sign him in the offseason, and not lose any assets" card. It's tricky, can't show any desperation to unload him. I think NYR would go hard after EK if they trade McDonough.

Why would Nashville ever do this? Karlsson fits nowhere on that team, in fact it would likely hurt them more than help them.

I think the only difference is that NSH actually has the assets to go get a guy like Karlsson, where so many teams just don't have the available capital without gutting the big club.

But at some point you have to look at the fact that he has the chance to get the best d-man in the league and if he does trade for him, he can then easily flip him for more at the draft to get some assets back

Roles. Subban has his role, Josi has his role etc. Subban is basically the same player.

Actually Subban has shored up his defensive game, he has become more dimensional than EK. Either way I don't believe the team with the best D should give up all that for another D

Absolutly. Them and TB. But it doesnt mean you should.

IMO the perfect organization model in the cap era is still Chitown. Top tier development and drafting. Solidify your top 6 (the core) and use young homegrown prospects to fill out the bottom 6.

Like that you're actually showcasing them, their stock rises and when their ELC is up, you can trade them for decent picks. It's like a revolving door of drafting, developing, showcasing, repeat.

But where they hit the wall was the extensions to Towes, Kane, Seabrook. A big miscalculation. I believe in loyalty but not to the point of paralysis.

NSH is in a position very similar to CHI. But they gotta use CHI's blunder as a reminder when it comes to managing the cap properly. They don't need Karlsson and his new contract... cause it's gonna hurt when it's time to resign Josi. Don't try to fix what is not broken.
