This is fair. I really thought that someone was going to make a crazy overpayment for Bailey because of the season that he's having right now.

Good deal and the fact that he is 28 years old means he should be worth it for all 5 years. Makes Tavares want to stay more as well. Not sure if this is Baileys only good year or if he has just been under the radar but seems good.

If he can stay close to his production from the past couple years, this should be a fine contract.

Term is perfect. Cap hit is fine in a vacuum and an underpayment (comparatively speaking) for a guy who had a career year.

Great fit with the Islanders ... though the only problem is, this takes up cap space to sign Tavares. I would have tried to sign JT first but it's a good signing.

I do have to wonder if this, coupled with also having to do deals with Nelson and Pulock, and fix multiple holes in the lineup for next season including in goal, starts pricing the Isles out of JT.

But this contract by itself doesn't seem bad, if he remains a consistent 50-60pt player.

They still have he cap space to sign him. They wouldn’t have done this if it means they couldn’t afford JT.

This gives Tavares some incentive to stay, Good contract and good teammate to play with during his tenure in NY.

Also avoids one possible scenario. A team might have made an offer to both players to allow them to continue to play together, come free agency. There may have been extra enticement for Tavares to go to a team that was willing to bring Bailey in long term as well.

Great signing. JT and Bailey have insane chemistry, and with Bailey locked up long term, JT is going to see this as a reason to stay. None of this even considers the term and cap hit of the signing, which are both very team friendly.
