Why would you want to trade Bowey?

Caps fans - A fan of another team here. Why on earth am I seeing so many trade ideas that involve getting Madison Bowey out of DC? As far as I know, his ceiling is in the top-4 as a highly productive offensive, right-handed dman. He's young and is still on his ELC. His next contract will probably be a cheap bridge. Why would you deal a guy like that?

There are a couple of Caps fans on this site that feel Bowey isn't a good player, and those Caps fans would be wrong. Bowey has been solid on the third pairing for us the past 20 games or so after a bit of a rough start. He's been seriously held back by the bad play of Brooks Orpik. If Trotz were to get his head out of his @$$ and scratch Orpik and put Bowey with either Kempny or Jerabek on the third pairing, the results would certainly be better than what we're seeing now.

Most Caps fans here feel that this team is a Cup contender, and I'm here to tell you, it's not the year. Anything can happen, but we have just as good a shot with the group we have now than if we make a big trade for an Evander Kane or Mike Green, like some suggest. Right now, the Caps need to keep their future assets and rebuild their prospect pool. Bowey is going to be critical in the short and long term future of this team. If we were to trade him, next year we're looking for a defenseman again, and that's a nightmare waiting to happen.

So no, we should not trade him. A young, talented defenseman with top four upside needs to stay in town. If we were to trade him, we'd see how bad of a decision that the trade was when we're looking for another RHD and Bowey is developing into a top-four defenseman elsewhere.

Because Caps fans want Green, though they can get him without giving up Bowey. A 1st could get the deal done, though Washington also may have to add something smaller too, like maybe a 4th or a 5th. You have to remember Green was an all-star. Sure, a) he isn't on a great team, and b) it's just one year, but still if it's for the playoffs it's still the same year, though you never know, he may not be as good of a fit in Washington as he is in Detroit. But still, it's the same season.

So now, about the fact that he's not on a very good team, Larkin has been pretty good this season and he made it ahead of him, and he was one of only two defensemen on the Atlantic division team, though Detroit's likely not going to sign Green, and Hedman was injured. So i can't say that because he was ahead of Hedman means that he's a superstar, or having a superstar year. Though he made it ahead of Ekblad still. Anyway, the whole all-star rules, well, they're not bad rules, they're just confusing.

You know what? They're not confusing, but how good you have to be to make it can get kind of confusing because of partly injuries but mainly how you have to have at least one player from each team. Anyway, back to Green, a 1st round pick should get it done, or maybe a little bit more is needed, but he won't cost too much as Detroit probably isn't going to sign him.
