Would have preferred not having to retain nearly $2 million on Bels, but I don't hate the deal.

Picks are picks

Spooner - in the off-season was always put in deals to get someone to take Bels contract. While Spooner has had a resurgence, he was a RFA at the end of the year and was going to price himself out of BOS, not only that, but Spooner is more of a 3rd line/PP Specialist (still a solid 40-50 pt player). Lindgren is a nice grab and has top 4 potential...at minimum he'll be a solid 3rd pairing, leadership type player.

BOS gets a vet to play with Krejci and DeBrusk, someone that is a 3-zone player and hopefully can help towards a playoff run. Now the question is, being so early and BOS playing in BUF, does Nash make his debut tonight?

I don't think so. The package is essentially 1st + Lindgren for Nash and then Spooner + Bels + 7th to make the cap work for both teams. Really the loss is Spooner, but he would have been a #3C or 4th liner with Nash coming in.

I'd have to think you'd be pretty happy as a bruins fan. Unloading Beleskey is really good even at 50%. Low draft pick most likely and Lindgren who seems more of a shut down type defender. I can't help but think the bruins did well here and the rangers get what they want

Yeah that retained salary on Beleskey is really the killer in this deal. It would have made a lot more sense if it was 0 or 25% retained. I'm somewhat upset they couldn't find a way to get the Rangers to eat more of that.

But at the end of the day, Nash is a massive upgrade over Spooner, and sometimes that the price of doing business. I don't think Lindgren has a top-four future, especially not with the Bruins, and the first round pick is going to be a late first rounder.

I hope Boston can find a way to retain Nash beyond this year.

I'm interested to see how he does w/ either Marchy & Bergeron or Krejci and DeBrusk. I think Nash w/ 37 & 63 would be nuts and it gives the Krejci line a scoring threat that can attack w/ speed (something DeBrusk likes to do as well)

One things for sure, this is the deal that sets the market price for every other rental on the block imo. And seeing how GMs were complaining that prices were too high before this deal, looks prices aren’t going to go down at all.

Can't see him slotting into that top line, but DeBrusk-Krecji-Nash is first-line quality playing second line minutes. Could get really crazy.

I think you may see him get reps on the #1 line. Nash is a big body that does a lot of damage around the net. Marchand/Bergeron are great board guys and find ways to get shots from the slot. With Nash in front to clean up goals would be amazing. Then you slide Pasta down and let his speed pair w/ the speed of DeBrusk and that's scary as well. Krejci as the slower forward because the trailer and opens him up for wristers from between the dots

I guess I can see that but Pastrnak has this incredible chemistry with Marchand and Bergeron that I would try to keep that line together first. The Krecji line has generated a ton of shots from the high slot, so if Nash could get into the front of the net (which, based on the hockeyViz heat maps, he's very good at), there might be a ton of rebounds to cash in on. Meanwhile, the MBP line already creates a ton of shots from in close.

Sure he could. Butch often moves Pasta down to play with Krejci when he is not playing "responsibly"....he could even play 3rd line!!

Do you even realize how deep Boston is with prospects???? Spooner was going to go anyway and Reilly Nash and Backes can both play C or wing.....Lindgren is a shut down D (already have them)......1st round pick is basically a second round pick when Bruins go deep this post-season......plus we lose Beleskeys contract (well some of it) and get Rangers to eat some of Nash's!!?? Bruins didn't really give up much at all. You should just stick to Habs and Pens articles....

The few ways this deal can turn out as a BOS win is if Nash resigns and/or if BOS win the cup, so anything less then one or both of those 2 things and BOS lose out big time

But this can be said for all high profile rentals, not just Nash.

H had nobody to play with in NY. Now he could play in several different spots in Boston
