TDL -- Patch to the Kings

Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2018
Published: Feb. 25, 2018

Description
Given what the Bruins just gave up for Nash, this doesn't seem extreme. Toffoli is the wild card, but his name seems to be floating out there a lot.

If Vilardi makes the Habs next year, another second pick could be added as compensation.

Good luck getting both Toffoli and Vilardi for Pacioretty, One insider already said that the Kings said no in including Vilardi for Pacioretty.

Maybe. But the sense is that this year, the Cup is there for any of 20 teams to go get. No one is dominant. So, you go for the bird in the hand and count on UFAs wanting to come/stay in L.A.

That was before Nash went for an arm, a leg and two testicles. Once Carter is back, the Kings will be a tough team.

Honestly, any two of these pieces for Pacioretty is good. Byron is an upgrade on most of the bottom-4 wingers. Schlemko is a depth D with playoff experience, which is never bad to have. Kerby Rychel's dad was a shortlived folk hero in Kings Country during the '93 cup run.

It would be counter productive for the Kings to give up Toffoli in any trade where they don't get a #2 C in return.
He's their 2C and 2nd leading scorer.
for a team that is not firmly in a playoff spot (currently sit 2 pts out of the last wild card spot) getting Patches would be GREAT - but losing Toffoli would be 10x WORSE.
If LA is truly interested in Patches, it goes something like this
either Vilardi or Clague (you can't have both).
1st round pick - without question.
MTL retains half the salary (maybe even for next year as well).
MTL gives up a 2nd. (later pick from Tor or Washington).

So Vilardi, a first for Max and a second? Seems a little light, but if you add in some "performance picks" or a bonus player of Max signs an extension this summer, it might be enough.

Both teams get what they need out of this. Kings should lottery protect the pick, though, and maybe ask for one of the Habs' 2017 D-man (Brook, Fleury) in the deal.

Not sure what Boston was thinking with this, but it does set a tone. Lots of teams looking to move into contention.

So Kempe, a 2018 first and Clague? That would probably be an acceptable haul.

But of the rebuild is on, Byron is worth more to the future if he's on another team.

That was my thinking exactly. I love Byron, but he's more valuable to the Pens or LV than he is Montreal right now.

LA ain't doing that...Boston gave up a 1st a prospect not a bluechip also a roster player they didn't want anymore and a cap dump too...you asking for 4 quality pieces is over the top...a 1st and Vilardi or Clague is your best hope...but got a feeling if you insist on Vilardi thays it...maybe a 2nd along with it.

Agree, mostly. What's missing in the Nash-Boston deal is that LA would have Max for another year at cheap. They can either re-sign him or, if he doesn't, probably trade him for a Nash-like take next spring. That's the extra value in here for LAK.

Well someone from Florida offered
Bjugstad, Matheson, Zonas 2nd 2018
For
Pacioretty, De La Rose and Furcale!!!

I take that and run...a perfect partner for Weber signed long term..and maybe Bjugstad turns it to the next level....he way better than what we have now...thoughts?

I like Matheson, but I think I'd prefer Vilardi to Bjugstad. But it's close.....

I'm hoping it's solved with a big kid named Dahlen.
