Tampa loads up for cuprun(s) and NYR kickstarts their rebuild with a massive haul. Imho it's a fair deal.

As a Bolts fan, I LOVE this trade!
1. Traded from our strengths and got a #1 dman and a forward who can win faceoffs!
2. Didn't trade Point, Sergachev or Foote

Rangers received some good prospects. Sad to see Namestnikov go. Great guy!

Yes, on our team he will be a #2 (I didn't forget about Hedman)smile, but in the NHL I identify him as being a #1 defensemen.

Pretty fair deal, both teams got what they needed. Will warn Tampa fans.. Miller is very lazy. That or he’s just very slow at inconvenient times.

Wow! Whatta team this Tampa are now. I'm eager to another matchup in the Final Conference between my Pens and Bolts. It'd be likely the best one among all the series in the last 5 years or even more...

I did lol... Really it was a fair deal as both teams accomplished what they are trying to do. But McD and Miller are somewhat overrated tbh

Come on Jeff Gorton, why did you do that?
Trading McDonagh wasn't stupid but trading Miller was and they could have got more.

Could have gotten more. But will be a while until we see how fair trade ends up being. Right now lightning seem to get the edge

Horrible Trade Yzerman. Howden and Hajek are the next Crosby/Letang duo in the future.... and that 1st round is going to get Rangers a player like Malkin then boom, you have a team better than the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Miller is really not that good. He’s slow and doesn’t have very high hockey IQ. I was hoping they would trade him away.

Tampa Bay wins it now but the Rangers win it later..... But that's how these deals generally go.

Look, you do it from either perspective... Good deal for both teams.. The Rangers made out with a haul tho, one would have to assume they will get a viable stud out of all of that.

Sorry, what? He's a 24 year old getting over a point every 2 games, and if he keeps scoring like he is so far this year, he should get to over 50 points.

I just am not a fan of the way he plays. I think Namestnikov will be way better

OK why are so many people saying TB got the better of NYR? I think this is pretty damn good deal for both teams.

If TB wins the cup and that is major possibility, they'll have landed Howden (1st rounder centerman), Hajek (2nd rounder, 37OA dman), 1st 2018 + 1st 2019.

Miller and Namestnikov pretty much equals for all intensive purposes.

That means McD pretty much was traded for, count them, FOUR 1ST ROUND PICKS. He is a UFA in a year and a half and will get a significant pay raise in his next contract which all but means TB will probably have to not resign him.

IMO, TB gave up a lot and got a lot back but this was a good trade for both teams.

I can understand the Rangers fans not completely loving this trade because they didn't receive an elite player in return for there biggest asset. They will have to draft their elite player. Bolts were able to get what they wanted without moving Point, Serg or Foote which was a major win for them.

Yup i get it. Most people want to ere on the side of quality over quantity all the time but if ever the quantity is of a high enough level already, its no consolation prize. Its a good deal. Sometimes those 4 assets are worth more than a Sergachev by himself.

Any time you can trade a player for what can be considered virtually four 1st round picks (albeit probably all late picks), I think you got more then fair value back.

Its not like Howden or Hajek are 23-24 year old prospects who have yet to really crack the NHL and have a chance of being career AHL'ers. These guys were drafted just 2 years ago and are good prospects. Maybe not elite level but definitely not "nobodies". I secretly wanted to the Habs to try and swing a deal with TB so that maybe Howden could come to the Habs. So frankly NYR fans, I'm jealous on getting him alone.

Lastly, there wasn't any precedent for a big a trade like this yet. At least that I remember off hand. Looking at what Yandle got from the Rangers a while back and whether you like it or not, Yandle at the time was almost as highly regarded as McDonagh was, I'm not sure you can equate the difference in the package McDonagh got compared to what Yandle eventually got.

I like the deal for both teams. TB went full tilt all in and NYR are blowing it up. Both got exactly what they needed. Far from a fleece for either team.

I really liked Howden. He was already built for the NHL. He just needed to tune his game for a year or two in the minors.
