Just some thought of how to add a little bit before the deadline. Parenteau isn't a long term piece for Toronto so they'll probably part ways with him pretty easily, a prospect or pick should do, can dump Lovejoy here too because he needs to be resigned next year so no loss for Leafs. A little bigger trade would be Schultz, get rid of Cole for cap and he has some value, he did bad in Pittsburgh but he was a 1st round pick and would be an O.K. 3rd pairing defense men and 2m for 1.5 more years isn't bad. And for Edmonton's sake they get Rust, a fast young winger that's good on the puck, Sergei Plokinov the KHL star that didn't carry over in the transition (he didn't have that long of a chance and most of it was under Johnston) and you cant go wrong with a 3rd round pick. All for Schultz who has struggled and needs to be resigned next year. And finally recall Murray because if Zatkoff has to play in the playoffs we would have no chance. Thoughts?
Schultz is a poor player. That's pretty much all that needs to be said.
Now let me just preempt you pulling Schultz's HERO or WARRIOR charts to try and convince me that he's actually pretty good. Schultz has 680 minutes of ES TOI. He's spent about a third of that with Taylor Hall (216). His CF% with Hall is 54%. His CF% without Hall is 44%. Schultz's figures are propped up by his linemates. He isn't very good and certainly not worth $4m.
While it's a good idea to look for young players in bad situations as trade targets, Schultz isn't one of those players. Hard pass.
Side note: Oil are at 49 contracts and can't do a 3 - 1 trade. You could toss in a pick instead of Rust (because Rust has a place on the Pens in the future) and make it work.
