Price is not worth that. He’s in the midst of a tough season and he has a massive contract for a goaltender.

Probably Bellows, Toews, and a first is more realistic, and the Habs would 100% need to retain salary.

The Islanders are about to learn real quick what an elite contract looks like laugh

Obviously Tavares is gonna be paid but $10.5M for a goaltender is a tad much

Fair enough but I dont think they will retain. They will simply take on cap dumps instead. No one retains on a contract longer than 4 years. Unless its smallish amount like 900K or something.

Not really considering Lundqvist signed for $8.5M in 2014... You think Bobrovsky isn't gonna ask for that and more after next year? Holtby is coming right behind him. That's the price of having an elite goalie in today's league.

You guys are probably still paying Dipietro close to that anyway laugh

Not paying DiPietro anything as of now, or at least anything that counts against the cap.

And yes, the price for an elite goalie is $8.5m. I think that’s fair - but also weigh the difference between the time Lundqvist signed his deal and Price signed his. Lundqvist never dealt with injuries, while Price has dealt with plenty. Not to mention the Rags waited until the new season began to hand probably the indisputably best goalie in the world at that time a massive new deal, whereas a Candadien team in clear turmoil gave $2M more to an injury prone goalie who is already struggling over the summer. Not a good thing.

May as well ditch him while he still has value.

Consider the time between signing? That's what I'm asking you to do! When Lundqvist's deal kicked in the cap was at $64M. It's already jumped $11M since then and is due to jump as much as $5M by next season when Price's contract kicks in. So $2M more doesn't look bad at all when you consider the cap has jumped $16M. And where is this injury prone crap coming from? Because he lost one season to a knee injury and hasn't had problems with it since? And was he supposed to dodge that puck that hit him in the head last week? Now, Dipietro, that's what I call injury prone!

Price will be elite for a long, long time. Enjoy Greiss!

Enjoy Griess? You say that as if he didn’t outduel Price just a month ago.

Well you’re saying enjoy Griess as if he sucks, meanswhile he made 50 saves in a win while Price made 18 in that same game, and you’re here sucking him off.

Doesn’t really make sense

That's like taking the FLA-PIT game on Saturday and saying "Dadonov scored 3 goals that game, while Crosby had none and you're really gonna argue that Crosby is better than Dadonov?"

If you're too dense to look at more than one game, let me help you out: Greiss is sporting a sparkling 3.84 GAA and 0.891 PCT this season.

Get a life dude, you lost this argument before you even started and now you're resorting to telling me how good Thomas Greiss is LOLOLOLOL

but that’s that not my argument. not once did I say Griess was better than Price. But you’re making it out to be that Griess sucks, meanwhile he completely outduled Price a month ago, and based on the that fact that you clearly think Price is mired in a bad season, why can’t that be the case for Griess as well?

the argument here wasn’t Griess > price, which seems to be you’re thought on what it is. dadonov is a solid player, but just because he had a hat trick does not make him better than the best player in the world. at that same time though, it’s not like Crosby is having a bad season - but let’s say he was and there is just one hopeful fan admitting to the bad season but writing off dadonov, despite the clear transparency that dadonov must be solid being that he outplayed said fans player in one of their few meetings together.

the point is, this argument is, and never was, Griess > price. it was the fact that it’s absolutely ridiculous to say Thomas Griess is bad when he is having a bad season and outdueled Carey Price a month ago, who is having a bad season. like do you see the issue there?

sorry, but the rest of the nhl and definitely the islanders are not entitled to hart winning goaltenders.

essentially, .920 save percentages are good enough for us here on the island. couple that with that the fact that he stood on his head in our only playoff round win in like seven millenniums, and he’s more than worthy of a three year deal worth $3.3m a year, especially considering the very small ramifications that can follow by easily trading him or even buying him out.

is he Carey price? nah. but he’s damn well worth the contract he got, despite his struggles

dangit, Phil Kessel. I'm convinced that if Lou was here before that deal went down, there's no chance the Leafs would pay $1.2m of his deal for 6yrs.

well in that sense you’re correct I guess. I have not become pals with any other islander fans on this site, like that guy billy that is everywhere. but I mean I could do some research and get back to you.

or if you want me to just dwell on my personal life I suppose I can do that too, which would be far easier
