Pacioretty out of Montreal

Created by: TheDachter
Team: 2017-18 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2018
Published: Mar. 2, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pacioretty for Thomas+ since Montreal is in need of centers. They then can slot Drouin on wing again where he’s better at. Trading Jordie Benn helps let the younger players into the lineup and with Edmundson out in St. Louis, they can replace him with another physical defenseman in Jordie Benn. Schlemko+Niemi out cheap to again let the young guys play. Gallagher on the 2nd line just to balance out the scoring a bit

add a top 5 draft pick to this bunch, and potentially tavares, and all of a sudden its a pretty good team

I wish!
But the fact the Blues gave up this season by trading Stastny without replacing him makes me doubt they'll be willing to part with Thomas...

Trades make sense except that Niemi is a UFA who could sign in Edmonton for free.

Yeah I heard Armstrong wasn’t interested in moving his top prospects (aka Kyrou and Thomas).

Mainly I did Niemi in Edmonton because of their backup situation. But yeah I see what you’re saying

He was pretty clear Thomas is an untouchable.

Niemi might have been traded for a 7th at the deadline had Price not ended up injured - Habs needed to keep him just to be a healthy body for the balance of the year.

The only way the Habs get Thomas is if the Blues land Tavares. He is our best shot at a legit 1c right now.

Yeah I figured. I just pictured a scenario if the Blues were willing to give him up (though not likely). Good luck the rest of the season btw smile

Thanks but I’m actively rooting for us to lose right now. We’re going nowhere and I think it is so important that we get our pick from the Flyers back. Doug Armstrong is gonna do something crazy in the summer and having that pick will make it so much easier. Also we might have a tiny shot at Dahlin and maybe the hockey gods will bless us for the first time ever.

Haha me too. I’ve wanted to lose all year as well ever since he has had comparisons to Erik Karlsson and Victor Hedman.

It kind of sucks that our rivalry is dead. It all ended when Backes, Reeves, Ott, Shaw etc all left. It doesn’t help that we both suck and the players who I used to hate are on the decline.

Yeah the rivalries used to be heated. I remember Backes and Toews rivalry was huge. We both used to have a couple guys who could fight when we needed but we really don’t anymore.

Maybe we’ll pick 2 and 3 this year and have the svechnikov vs. Zadina rivalry or one of us gets Brady tkachuk. Obviously the blues have to lose a lot more games to get there.

2017 draft the top 3 picks were NJD, PHI, and DAL so I guess anything could happen this year too.

Pacioretty for Thomas straight up wouldn’t happen. Pacioretty is a natural 30 goal scorer and has been for a while. I always thought the return for Pacioretty would be a solid prospect, 1st, roster player. Then again ya never know because anyone is a better gm than Bergevin lol
