Right now all we are missing on defence is a top 4 puck moving RHD. Nurse and Larsson are an excellent shutdown pair? Why would we write off Klefbom and Talbot when they have both struggled with some injuries this year after how good they both were last year? Sekera and Russell provide their trade lists next summer, so we move them then. At that point we evaluate our defence including Jones and Bear who are both puck moving D who are trending up. Bear may become that top 4 puck moving RHD, but if not we can trade for one in the summer 2019 when we have the cap space from trading Sekera and Russell. Either way we won't be winning the cup in 2018-2019... Also we have some good goalies in the pipeline in Broissoit 24yo Ellis 24yo and Starrett 23yo.

If they want a defensemen like that, why take Tkachuk when Evan Bouchard might be available? He has been playing great. I know it does not necessary help right away but it will help in the future. I agree with everything else that you said. However, I would switch RNH and Draisaitl in your lines, at least for a while. i also think it might be nice to get an experienced guy to help lead the team. I am not sure who...

We also don't have top wingers right now so if Puljujarvi and Yamamoto develop like we hope they will, and Drai/RNH play LW, we are missing 1 LW spot in the top 6. Thats why Tkachuck or Zadina in my opinion. I prefer Drai over RNH as 2C because I think Drai is better able to check big centres like Crosby Kopitar Getzlaf than McD or RNH. Think playoff series against the Ducks last year. But we haven't seen RNH as a winger yet so I don't know for sure!

Thats a good point and a thought I have also had. But for next year we do have Sekera and Russell. The following year if we trade both of them we have Talbot 32yo, Larsson/Klefbom/RNH all 26/27yo, Milan Lucic (if we keep him) 32yo, Kassian 29yo. So thats probably enough experience/age if a couple of those guys are the guys to speak up and be a leader in the dressing room. I hear Larsson is and thats why he was given the 'A'

Here's an idea, trade for a good defenseman. May I suggest Carlson or Ellis???????? AND A GOOD GOALIE MEANS NOT CAM TALBOT. Go for someone like Markstrom or Oscar Dansk

We can't afford them this year. Like I said, summer 2019 Sekera and Russell provide their trade lists, then we can evaluate. Even with Carlson and a .93 goalie we are not a contender next year because we do not have the winger depth yet.

With Russel included, LHD is hella crowded still. That speaks against Caleb Jones but it'll be interesting to see if he comes close to his brothers potentional down the line. If anything, he can be a 7th D once we move Sekera or Russel.

Even if Bear or Benning ends up holding a top 6 D slot we gotta get a real RHD before the 2019/2020 season start

Personally I think Benning + Caggiula are expendables that's most often making our roster worse out on the ice. They both have enough upside to be solid adds in an eventual trade though.
