Dude this isn't what would happen today. This is next year's team meaning this happens either during free agency or likely at draft. It says in trade though "depending on trade timeline"

Well, everything I have heard from every DET fan was that they basically killed any growth he could have had. A fresh start for a skilled guy could be just what he needs. Also, nobody is calling him a saviour, he is a capable goalie that would be a nice stop gap until Carter Hart takes over.

You are correct. He will be AHL ineligible next season, so NHL or back to OHL. That would alter the lineup a bit if he makes the opening day roster, but I still don't think it would lead to any off-season acquisitions.



Since Darling lost the starter's job this season, and Ward is a UFA at end of 2017-2018, a healthy Elliott may be an option for the 2018 season, particularly at a reasonable cap hit.



Mrazek is no savior and is not being signed as one. Elliott, Neuvirth, and now Mrazek are all stop-gap measures signed to short-medium contracts until the presumed savior Hart (or Sandstrom) are ready to take over.

Why sign John Muse? You currently have 2 NHL goalies as well as Lyon and Carter Hart in the AHL. Muse is just wasted effort.

John Muse was added since he was already signed by the Flyers organization. The roster reflects that signing.

You re-signed him for the 2018-2019 season. Where will he go? That gives you Mrazek and Stolarz at the NHL. I see you have Alex Lyon signed as well to play in the AHL. I am assuming you are going to put Carter Hart in the AHL as well since he can't go anywhere else. Where will you be putting John Muse? Are we going to have 3 goalies at the AHL level?

Good question. With the Muse signing, he isn't making that money to just play in the ECHL unless it is a 2-way type contract. I haven't seen any indication that the Flyers would move on from Stolarz just yet, and ditto with Lyon, though poor showings from Lyon as the NHL backup to Mrazek might change that decision. So yeah, still good question and not sure. What are your thoughts?

I think Muse is the casualty. He is older so his window to be successful is closing. Maybe he would agree to sign with Reading if he wants to stay in the system but realistically he will probably sign somewhere else. The more I think about it, the team has to make a decision on the future. They have several options to contemplate:

1) Sign Mrazek (2 or 3 years), move Neuvy and Elliott, and have Stolarz (need to sign him) as NHL backup with Lyon (sign him as well) and Hart in AHL
2) Sign Mrazek, move either Neuvy or Elliott, let Stolarz walk, and have Lyon and Hart in the AHL
3) Let Mrazek walk (you don't lose a 3rd rounder), Have Elliott and Neuvy work the NHL, let Stolarz walk, and have Lyon and Hart in AHL
4) Let Mrazek walk, have Elliott and Neuvy in NHL, let Lyon walk, and have Stolarz and Hart in AHL
5) Let Mrazek walk, trade Neuvy, have Elliott and Stolarz in NHL, and Lyon and Hart in AHL
6) Let Mrazek walk, deal Elliott (who might have more trade value), let Stolarz and Neuvy split NHL time, Lyon and Hart in AHL

I'm sure I'm missing one scenario, but you get the idea. Personally, I don't let Mrazek walk unless I think Hart will be ready with only one year of AHL time. Hart is clearly the future. Don't forget about Sandstrom in the SHL. If I'm Hexy, I do option 1. It gives Hart 2 years of AHL time to get ready to take the reigns and gets back some value for the other two goalies.

I agree regarding Muse. There is likely a 2-way deal in his contract for AHL/ECHL. I think he might sign elsewhere at the end of 2018-2019, but for now, he is somewhere in the Flyers system.
Scenario 1 is likely if Mrazek plays well down the stretch and into the playoffs, say, winning the first round.
Scenario 5 is likely if Mrazek falters and they stumble into the playoffs and lose the first round in convincing fashion.
Ideally Hart is ready to start the 2019-2020 season, and realistically start the 2020-2021 season. Sandstrom may be a year or two behind Hart, but the number of decent goalies generally isn't a bad problem to have.

In no way do you let Stolarz walk over Lyon. And why not sign both and use one in a trade?

I was just spelling out the options. I agree with what you are saying. I think keeping Mrazek in the fold gets you two good things, a younger goalie who could get hot and a goalie who is looking for a bridge deal. For us, it also allows Hart to get seasoned in the AHL. This is why option 1 (trade Neuvy and Elliott while keeping everyone else) makes the most sense.
