2 years in a row without 1st and 2nd-rly bad idea.
Also NSH lost 1st center, 3rd center, good 2,3 line winger + top prospect + 1st and 2nd and it is only for 1 year EK....damn.

So MTL gets over $15M in cap liability for 2 of the worst contracts in the chel for what? They don't get any futures or assets? I know Bergevin makes bad decisions, but I am confident he wouldn't do this.

Also very risk for Preds with 2018 picks involved you would have to do before or at the draft without knowing you actually have Tavares signed.

Johansen in his prime at $8M for 7 years for a 1st pick that could be as high as #8 wouldn't be all that bad. No sense whether Bobby Ryan could be salvaged, but if they took him and took back half his contract (so 4 years at $3.625M) would he be worth anything to anyone? He was a great playoff performer last year. Is he worth a late first or low second at that price?

I missed the part where MTL gets a 1st out of the deal too. That makes it much more stomachable to me. I still think the Johansen contract is a burden, rather than a benefit.

No, I was saying that Montreal would be giving up a pick that is potentially a #8 (given that we know the NHL will want to vault both NYC teams into the top spots -- like they did NJ and Philly last year, screwing the AVS and Canucks).

I love the draft, but see Johansen as a bird in the hand, rather than waiting for a kid who might or might not develop.

Of course they will. The fix is in..... Four of the top 6 in the lottery are Canadian. I'm almost willing to bet none gets into the top 3.
