Your argument is flawed on many levels, but thanks for the one star.
"Throw away prospect": Roland McKeown is a former second round pick who is an excellent skater with leadership qualities who happens to be a right shot defenseman, a highly valued commodity that Pittsburgh also happens to need. He's NHL ready, but just doesn't have a place on a stacked Canes d-corps.
"Gunna probably have to overpay": Teams don't typically get big returns when trading unproven goalies like Jarry, so the Pens would be happy to get an even younger asset who uh, getting to another flawed argument...
"Pens probably going to extend him at under a million AAV": McKeown is making $745,000 next year. So yea, cost-controlled asset.
