Description
Cue the "Good Luck signing Matthews and Marner" comments. Well... I think this would give us plenty enough flexibility to do so.

Between a likely cap increase, Hainsey and Komarov becoming UFAs and the ability to trade Marleau... we'd have ~ 12-20 million of cap to play around with. If needed, we'd have the ability to sign Borgman/Kapanen/Marner to bridge deals as well, making everything fit under the cap.

$12M in cap space will probably be enough to re-sign just Matthews, far less Marner or Kapanen. Not saying you can't make it work, but it's going to completely bankrupt the depth throughout the rest of the lineup, then you end up with current day Chicago or 2010-2014 Pittsburgh.

FLA trade is decently even IMO but I don't think FLA will trade Ekblad anytime soon. FLA gets worse presently, but get a decent future players which doesn't suit their win now mentality

dont like the florida trade. ekblad is pretty underrated. he is a franchise defenseman. doubt florida even considers trading him. also marleau has a nmc, ntc, so u cant trade him, nor play him in the minors.

"Cut the crap about resigning Matthews and Marner". Well it isn't crap when there isn't cap room due to not paying performance bonuses. They cap really doesn't work.

2) My proposed roster leaves plenty of free capspace so that there ISN'T much/any ELC bonus carry over.

No way Florida agrees to move Ekblad without Nylander or Marner involved. He's their franchise defenceman. Think Marner + Liljegren + 1st +++. They have no motivation to move him.

Oh, the irony... laugh:

You only have ELC bonsues carry over to the next season when your team exceeds the cap. This tends to happen most to teams who use a lot of LTIR.... However, in my proposed roster we have cap space above and beyond what was freed up from LTIR. This means we'd eat up the ~3 mil of ELC carry over from THIS season (Don't think Matthew's will hit his full bonuses due to injury) as well as ~3.5mil ELC bonus that may accumulate next season. This will leave very little ELC bonus carry-over for 2019/2020 when Matthews and Marner get their raises.

You're right... I'm more day-dreaming here with this roster... but it would make more sense if FLA signed Carlsson wink
