Building on Young Core (Conservative)

Description
Looked to build the organization this offseason with draft picks and college free agents I feel are feasible for Buffalo to land. A UFA signing in Maroon is also added to bring in a stop-gap LW till prospects are ready. This also keeps Rochester stacked for (hopefully another) Calder Cup run

LHD Daniel Brickley is a big defender with big offensive upside. Brickley has 72 points in 101 career games and owns a great +47. A former teammate of Casey Nelson and having attended the Sabres development camp, I see it as a decent chance.

Andy Sturtz is a undersized RW that has 37 points in 33 games this year. I believe he could sign in Buffalo since he is a buffalo native, played for the Jr. Sabres, and was in the Penguins development camp when Jason Botterill was there.

The one deal I make with LA is to help them clear cap while also getting younger. LA with the addition of Phaneuf has 4 high salary defenders with a MASSIVE contract coming to Doughty next offseason. Buffalo takes on who I believe could be the odd man out in Martinez who is a solid puck moving veteran on a pretty friendly deal. Buffalo sends LA a young cost-controlled LHD in McCabe and a young speedy winger. We could send another decent prospect/Pick their way.

Moulson and Beaulieu are buried in the AHL this year. Cap space is tight this season, but Moulson, Pominville, and Beaulieu come off the books for about $13 million of salary cap opened up and a potential buyout of Bogosian could add even more. This will be needed for contract extensions in the coming seasons of young forwards.

I dont know if its cost controlled when he has just 1 year left. He's just got at cheap cap hit.

Well unless he goes to LA and lights it up this season I don’t see him getting that big of a raise. Maybe if he has a good season 2.75 mill?

Two young decent players for a 30 year old bonafide top-4 defender locked into a team-friendly deal? I’ll take that every day of the week if I’m Buffalo
