If you're trading Karlsson this is more of a rebuild than a retool. Also, way too much for Ceci. Maybe 3 years at 2.75M or so, but not 8 years at 5.25M

The Boston trade is ridiculous. They would never do it.

OTT is getting hosed on the Karlsson trade. You're getting a "gritty" Dman, a 23 yr old who has 11 pts in NHL 111 games, and the picks. You might as well be trading Karlsson for the picks alone, since those players are trash. I'd be looking for 2 1st rounders, an A prospect, and a B+/B prospect. Maybe add a late pick into that. Karlsson is arguably the best defenseman in the league.

Those guys are not 'trash', but i agree. As soon as i saw Karlsson in that trade i didn't even notice the return. And the Ceci contract also made me not notice that Boston trade. That's a top 4 d-man (likely top pairing), 2 top prospects (last i checked they were still supposed to be pretty good) and a young, scoring forward with a ton of potential for a 2/3C, a 3rd liner in Dzingel, a 7th d-man (maybe a 6th guy) and a 3rd.

That Karlsson return is ridiculously bad.

That Boston return is ridiculously good.

Also, no point in trading Dzingel.

Well, 2.75 doesn't make more sense, his Qualifying Offer is $3,350,000

Alright then, maybe that, but not 8 years X 5.25M

Of course because Ceci is not going to get a 8 years contract. It's always possible but it would surprise me a lot

And that would be stupid because you get the AAV up by buying out 6 of his UFA years. He has 2 RFA years left, buy them and 2-3 UFA years and get a reasonable AAV

Something like :

3.3 + 3.7 + 4.1 + 4.5 + 4.9 / 5 = 4.1 AAV for 5 years

In his "prime", he won't be making much more than that because he will never put big numbers so there's no point in buying out too many UFA years.

He might be making 5.0 to 5.5 on his next contract (and the cap will rise between now and then)
