18/19 Ideas (Read Description)

Created by: Craigster14
Team: 2018-19 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 13, 2018
Published: Mar. 13, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The list of things the Oilers need to accomplish in the offseason in order of importance.

1. Shooting winger for 97
2. Puck moving PP D-man
3. Shore up RW depth

Unfortunately... The d-man thing is easier said than done, and if EDM has to pay more than this for a player like Barrie, I say wait for Bear to develop.

I don't mind playing a JVR-97-29 line. I don't think moving 93 is a good idea at all. If you want to play 56-93-29 line im okay with that.

Dump salary by moving Sekera and Russell...

Caps say no and block Edmontons number, no way they take on Russell's 4 million cap hit they can't afford it and have no need for him. But I do like the idea of moving his contract just not to Washington

    Heres what I think.
No cap space in future. JVR money needs to be used to resign puljujarvi, khaira, possibly talbot
Grabner for half a mill less and one less year
I think instead of Barrie, look for Faulk or Skinner from Carolina. Draft accordingly. I dont know who we would give up for either though

    Edit. I lied. No Skinner.

I know it’s a minor part, but Oilers better not trade Stuart Skinner. I believe he’ll be the future of the Oilers goal crease for the next 10 years after Talbot.
Like the Barrie trade and all your contracts are reasonable. Wouldn’t want JVR or Grabner for their prices though

So the Oilers are going to trade for a guy that they claimed on waivers, had a cup of coffee and then fired back on waivers? Oh and on top of that they give a pick away with Russell! That isn't happening, not to mention the cap implications for Washington going forward.

I get that GMPC only has a couple of phone numbers but the Islanders don't make that trade either, plus Sekra needs to waive his NMC

Signing JVR just means having another Lucic in 3 years, hard pass on that.

Slight over pay on Grabner but that probably gets done

Nurse is getting a short bridge deal or a long term deal, signing him until he becomes a UFA is a bone head move

Resigning Strome for the same money is a waste, get him at a lower cap hit on a show me contract.

    Slepyshev's contract is about right

Benning will be closer to 1.5/2M x 3 deal or a show me contract.

The Av's don't make that trade for a low end first and second magic beans and an unproven goalie in the WHL with a .905 save % especially when they have Werner unsigned and ready to come over and take a role in the minors.

Okay I take issue with just about everything you're saying...

    1. Russell move is a cap dump. It's not about the return, we are getting rid of 4 million. WSH was just a team I picked it doesn't matter if you want to talk reality I guess teams you'd look at would be ones with space (CAR,MTL)
    2. The JVR comment is just a hot take that you cannot back up at all.
    3. Someone is paying Grabner that
    4. Nurse broke out this year, and will not get a bridge. I value him at 4.5 but I've seen others go with a similar contract to Klefbom Larsson, which makes sense. That's what players do is sign a contract until their UFA (Ebs, Hall ring a bell?)
    5. Strome take isn't actually that bad... I agree in a sense.
    6. Benning will get a bridge.
    7. Low end first? Sheesh if we don't make any changes it could be lottery again.. LOL. Benson is an A-List prospect putting big numbers up in the WHL, caught the injury bug for 2 years and fell out of the first round. Skinner is a sweetner because goalies are wildcards. If you want turn the second into another first on conditions. If we have to pay more than that... It's a no from EDM.

    Thanks for the feedback dawg
