I’m not a big fan of kids dropping out of college. I guess he could always take summer school classes

Most guys will do their schooling in the off-season and get their degrees.

Hence the reason why I said I guess he will be taking summer school classes. You just repeated the same thing I said for the sake of making a comment.

You said he could, I confirmed and said most do. But hey, if you want to act like that for someone agreeing with you then I might as well add you to the block list now. Enjoy the site smile

Haha....People voting no this wasn't a good signing? How is signing a 1st rounder after he had two productive seasons in the NCAA not a good signing?

I think they paid a little too much for an NHL newbie.

First round pick, leaving school early....They gave him the max salary they could. That's "too much"? That's what a lot of rookies get once signing.

A lot of guys will take the necessary classes in between seasons in order to finish their college degree.

(Insert unimportant observation of insignificant aspect that is not related to hockey, simply to have an input on an unnecessary topic here)

I voted No because Frederic is spelled the french way and doesn't have a K at the end of it. Therefore, I'm right.......

What's the big deal? he can always go back when he's done playing hockey. Why waste your prime and your youth playing 4 years of college hockey when an NHL team wants to give you a contract.. For me it's would be a no-brainer - I would go pro and if or when that doesn't work out then once I was done playing I would return to college..

I've never understood why guys play 4 years in college unless it's for developmental purposes. I mean I do understand that many colleges have good developmental programs, which is why a lot of guys go straight from college hockey to the NHL and bi-pass the AHL entirely..

And why is it bad that he left college after he got his associates degree?

If the kid is NHL ready then you play in the NHL, you don't go back to college...... It's not like returning to college at 35 would be outlandish, lol... That's only IF he has to. He may go on to have an excellent NHL career and retire a multi-millionaire - if that's the case he won't need college unless he wants to go back..

A lot of players returned to college after their hockey careers, well at least guys that played in the 80's and 90's when salaries weren't in the millions, but today a somewhat decent player could be set for life after playing 7-10 years in the NHL..

I think the negative voting is more due to people just hating the Bruins. There's a great chance that most of the people who voted don't even know who this kid is laugh

man, we're really arguing about minutiae here. but here's my $0.02:

1) Frederic was, if I recall, a reach when he was selected at #29 in 2016 (most rankings had him as a late 2nd/early 3rd rounder), and that probably pissed off a lot of Bruins fans. I think Sweeney also slung around words like "hard work" and other such intangibles when describing Frederic, which didn't help. But he's put up 30+ points in 2 years at Wisconsin; pretty good for a 1st-rounder.

2) The downvoting is probably just trolling. Most people on here rarely rate ELC signings in a negative manner. (Frederic's status as a somewhat-unpopular-at-the-time 1st-round pick might be part of it, too.)

3) I'm ambivalent on the whole "to finish college or not to finish college, that is the question" thing. On the one hand, a lot of hockey players aren't prepared for life after hockey, and the NHLPA does absolutely nothing to help, so having that degree in hand actually gives players a chance at a way to transition to life after hockey. On the other hand, players who go through all 4 years of college in the NCAA have the option to just wait a few months and then become free agents, and most teams aren't interested in losing prospects in that manner. My opinion on the matter consists of a big wet fart noise and "the player's gotta be the one to make that decision, not people like us who fart around on Internet forums."

Can you explain so many downvotes on a ELC contract being signed? Give me a break.... People hate the Bruins or a certain Bruins poster here and that's what this from. Crawl back under the bridge.

I was agreeing with you. but I'll go ahead and explain.

there are a lot of different fans here who hate a lot of teams. but there is only one team you can't possibly discuss on this site and it's the bruins. whenever you criticize anything the bruins do, you have one user joining in with "LoL dA bruiNz arE dA best LoL" and another has openly admitted on not even trying (reasoning: other teams fans aren't trying too!) . granted there's still you and tadhockey and probably others, but discussing with them is always close to unbearable. it's a completely unfitting attitude for a discussion forum and sometimes it's coming back, this time it has even been provoked.

Well then, if they're "Bruins haters" then that would mean this kid has stud potential for them to hate the signing so much.

I have no idea who this kid is either however I don't have to know who this kid is to understand that signing a prospect has nothing but upside for any team. IMO the poll wasn't really needed for a prospect signing of this nature, but the poll did prove something unexpected tho - that there is bias or ignorance around here, lol.

Read your comment towards me and thought you were saying I was playing the victim card. My fault.
