Chiarelli should be fired on the spot if he even considers doing that

It's not a terrible trade. However, Edmonton will need to get a little bit more simply because of the terms on the contracts. Yeah Ceci is an RFA and can sign long term, but Hoffman is only signed for 2 years.

That's fair. RNH is only signed 3. He is the younger player but I think (I'm also trying to be unbiased) that Hoffman is currently the better player. Slightly. Klefbom and Ceci are similar, depending on Ceci's deal, which will probably be similar to Klefbom's. There would probably have to be additional pieces in there, but I was kinda confused when buddy up there (ekpaul) trashed it.

But in terms of value i think Hoff (while older) is slightly better than RNH and Klefbom (barely older) is slightly better than Ceci.

If Chia wasnt fired for the Hall for Larson trade he certainly wouldn't get fired for this one. Maybe a 2nd rounder or Pittsburgh's 1st gets it done though. RNH is good, but he's far from an elite talent. Ceci has every chance to become better than Klef, but Klefbom has a longer history of production which adds value. It's not as terrible as some think considering it gives Edmonton what they need which is a speedy winger in Hoffman and a RHD.

Carolina is probably the better trade partner for Nuge simply because a Nuge for Faulk 1 for 1 gives both teams a need now without mortgaging a future

Personally I think this trade makes Ottawa a weaker team. RNH isn't as good as Hoffman and shipping Ceci hurts our right side D which already lacks severely in depth.

Ceci is terrible. Klefbom hasn't been great this year because he's playing through an injury, but he's way better than Ceci in driving play.

Also, RNH is a centre and Hoffman is a winger. Centres have more value, so if you consider those two guys as a 1 for 1 deal, then Edmonton has to get more value in the rest of the trade.

While I think it's a bad option for Edmonton (and I'm a Flames fan), I could see Chiarelli doing it because he's an idiot.

If you've watched some of Ottawa's games since Dion was shipped out, you would not call Ceci terrible. His game has improved tremendously for whatever reason. He's actually a good 2nd pairing guy. But he's still a 2nd pairing guy at best. As is Klefbom.

Also, RNH is currently playing wing..... He'd probably be a center in Ottawa though yeah, depending on how the sens prospects pan out over the next couple years. But the two of them are very similar in value, even with RNH "being" a C.

You can say he's improved tremendously since Phaneuf left, but when you look at a guy who's a huge negative in possession, goals% and expected goals over a 5 year period, it's hard to blame that on a guy who was only there for 2 of those years. Klefbom has been a positive in possession and expected goals over the same 5 years. One of these guys is actually valuable, and one shouldn't be.

RNH has played wing for less than 10 games after playing centre then entire rest of his 7 year career, so he isn't just "being" a C.

Edmonton will get better pieces if they simply move both guys individually.

Ceci has not been anywhere near Klefbom in his career thus far and although I agree Hoffman is probably better than Nuge, Nuge plays a position that is highly valued over wingers.

If I'm EDM, I wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole.

Serious question: how is Hoffman a better player than Nugent-Hopkins?
