If (and that's a big if) the Caps decide to move on from Backstrom than STL and WSH should make great trade partner. Imagine the asking price for Backstrom would be 1st+top prospect+top 6/top 4 player.

If I had to a guess I'd say Caps ask for a 1st+1 of Kyrou/Thomas/Kostin+Tarasneko/Schwartz/Fabbri/Parayko. Doubt Tarasenko or Parayko are available, just saying they would probably at least ask. I think realistically it would be 1st+Thomas+Schwartz

I do not believe Stastny seemed inclined to resign here and that is why we traded him to WPG

Either Backstrom or Kuznetsov would be a great pickup and I also see them as good partners. 2018 first + Kyrou + Fabbri + lesser prospect/pick would be about the highest I would go (especially for Backstrom due to contract length).

Schwartz, Petro, Parayko, Tarasenko, Schenn, Thomas seem to be the only truly untouchable players on the blues

Could I interest you in Namestnikov/Hayes/Zuccarello for Kostin + mid pick?

Or taking on a salary dump, bumping up that pick.

I doubt Backstrom gets that much considering he has one more year left unless it's a sign and trade.

No way blues trade schwartz. Not a bad trade value wise, but Schwartz and Schenn are lethal together and his heart/hussle are needed. Don't think Blues would be overly interested in Holtby either. Probably will roll with Allen/Hutton or Allen/Husso

I don't feel EDM and STL match up well, but I would offer Kostin + Walman + Berglund/Sobotka + 2nd round pick

IMO, as a hockey fan I think Anisimov would fit the Blues like a glove... He would be the ideal center for Tarasenko as a big playmaker. He did well with Panarin and Panarin & Tarasenko are similar type of players - they're both snipers and snipers need playmakers.

Then again Bowman would have no interest in helping give the Blues an immediate upgrade or any sort of depth unless it's an over payment or improves the Hawks more.

For sake of the thread:

To St. Louis: Artem Anisimov & Gutav Forsling
To Chicago: Jordan Schmaltz & (WIN) 2018 first round pick

Trade Tarasenko to CGY for Tkachuk and reset the core to the younger group.

IDK if that "trade in division" penalty exists anymore.

**** STL sent Stastny to the Peg while STL was still in a playoff position (or within 2 points of one).

Maybe not, Bowman did send Hartman to Nashville and Hartman wasn't a rental either - he's a RFA so it will be difficult to see how that turns out. I mean I understand why Bowman made the trade - he was made an offer that couldn't be refused but Hartman could end up being the next James Neal and if that's the case Bowman may have made a mistake considering Nashville and Chicago will be rivals for the foreseeable future and Hartman could end up being one of their better players.

I mean I have no idea why GM's would abandon the idea of not improving your rivals... Seems like logic to me but whatever, it is what it is..

Either way I would offer Anisimov to St. Louis if they offered up something good in return and IMO, I could really see St Louis being interested in Anisimov too. He would be a perfect fit for sure..
