18/19 Oilers minor moves/changes

Created by: Fleurdelille
Team: 2018-19 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 19, 2018
Published: Mar. 19, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. Yamamoto + Puljujärvi needs to work out as top6 RW
2. RNH must not be traded
3. Sekera + Klefbom must bounce back from their respective injuries
4. Lucic must slim down and start playing like a top6 winger
5. Bear + Bouchard must 1-2 years in AHL before they replace Benning/Russel
6. Should get a goalie that can challenge Talbot
7. Klefbom must bounce back from shoulder surgery and return as #1 PP defensemen
8. McLellan must be removed before next season. Most his decisions are horrendous. Having Strome faceoff at 45% over Draisaitl at 55% on the PP? So many horrible minor decisions. JP will never get a chance to evolve under him

You're right, improvement from within is the the only real way to be successful, though it sometimes doesn't show on a trading site like CapFriendly. AA is too good/young/valuable to be traded by the Wings for so little.

Detroit isn't willing to pay him. Red wings fans generally suggests a B prospect + a 2nd for his signing rights. Well Oiler-3rds are generally fairly high and Jones has a very high ceiling for a B prospect

All players and teams are governed by the CBA. AA signing last fall was kinda of "CBA imposed" RFA contract much like Trouba's the previous year with the Jets. AA will get his deserved money via he RFA as Detroit gets more cap room or via arbitration this summer Too say, Detroit doesn't want to pay him, likely isn't true for the future. And a 20 goal scorer, 40 point scorer (pro rated) is worth more than what you offered. Lots of teams would be interested in his services, though I think the Wings still like him long term.

Detroit is willing to pay AA what he's worth his agent was asking for $2.5 million and his comparable were getting much less. AA will get his worth this summer. And the ask for AA is a 1st or blue chip prospect and Jones isn't a blue chip prospect. It would need to be at least Jones+2nd for AA he's has far to much potential here to be given away for Jones+3rd round pick.

Jones + a 2nd is completely doable for the Oilers - as long as they are committed to keeping both Nurse and Klefbom long-term. The emerging Samorukov will fill Jones' shoes as the Oilers top LD prospect.

We all agree that AA would be awesome on McDavids wings both have blazing speed just AA's defensive game needs a lot to be desired.

Love your rationale, your thought process is spot-on. The only changes I would make is to the lineup: I would switch Puljujarvi with Athanasiou (soo much speed!) and Lucic with Slepyshev. Draisaitl is at his best when playing with fast wingers and Lucic isn't one. Lucic - Strome - Puljujarvi and Khaira - Beagle - Kassian would be a dominant bottom-6.

Also, I think Nurse - Benning should probably play ahead of Sekera - Russell.

    Semantics. happy

Yup. Would you consider Ryan Mantha + a 2019 1st if that 1st was top-15 protected?
