Apparently Vancouver’s asking price for Tanve is a prospect a roster player and a 1st so a realistic trade would be Gardiner, Nielsen and a first

I suppose that's why Tanev is never going to traded to the Leafs. Leafs don't desperately overpay.

And that roster, Bieskda, Vermette, Thornton, Komarov, Holden Down. Gee doesn't that make the Leafs worse in 2018/19 and forward? Don't want to pay the PF bonuses for this. season and next season in 2018/19? Can't do it with this lineup.

100% agree with you. Tanev is an extremely good shutdown D-man but isn’t worth what Vancouver is asking and the leafs are smart enough to realize that

Lol.... Gardiner probably has more value than Tanev considering one guy plays like 60 games a season and the other leads the leafs (a top 6 team in the NHL) in even strength ice time.... the under rating of Gardiner even by leaf fans is crazy to me...

Since Rielly's injury a few months ago Gardiner has been the leafs best defender and has already put up another 40+ point season.

Edit: just saw Tanev is at 39 games played this year.. no interest in trading for him. Can't build a top pairing around a guy who is the most injury prone player in the league.

I see Thornton re-signing with San Jose or retiring. I would be shocked if he signed with anyone else but San Jose..

Well, unless Thornton thinks he's the "missing link" that could get Toronto a Cup, but that would be an awful cocky assumption being that he would be a 3rd line center. He's a missing link alright but I don't know if it's in a hockey context..

Besides, does Toronto want to expose their younger guys to an epic failure like Joe Thornton, lol? It's not like Thornton can give advice on how to win a Stanley Cup or anything. No, if he signs in Toronto he would just be along for the ride. He would be the one winning a Cup on the back of Matthews, Marner, Nylander etc.. lol

He would be like Lanny McDonald, but at least old Lanny was liked and respected - I cant say the same thing about old Joe.. lol

Naw, Joe knows he's a failure and he at least has the common decency to keep it to himself.. He'll either sign with San Jose in another feeble attempt to win a Cup on his own or retire what he knows he is - a loser.. lol

As you can tell I'm not Joe Thornton fan..

Some of what I said is true tho..

it's almost as if Leaf fans actually watch the guy play

It is almost like many fans let 1 mistake every like 5 games completely cloud their judgement.

The Norris goes to the defender who puts up the most points almost ever year so that is flat out wrong. He also is one of the best defender on the leafs at suppressing shots, high danger scoring dances and stopping clean zone entries with his active stick. All the stats and the eye test points to this.

Not sure if you have even seen him play these last few years.
