The Kessel-Pacioretty trade is the main focus of my question.

I know I have no credibility after my last post....maybe even before that. Pacioretty is a far superior player than Kessell, Production, plus minus. It's not like Max has had a great amount help from his forwards in his Montreal tenure either.

my buddy is a habs fan and we always argue on who is a better player between patch and kessel. Im going to say no to this trade for two reasons. #1. Although patch is more well rounded, kessel has more upside and I feel that he could end up meshing very well after some time. I mean he scored 80 points with bozak and JVR. Patch has similar line mates and has never reached 70. and #2 Term. Kessel is signed to a longer contact and therefore when patches expires, there is no chance pittsburgh will be able to resign him. It'll cost at least 7.5 mil. Probably more. Very interesting trade though. You can make arguments for both cases. They are in the same class

I'll take Patches for the Cap Savings. Plus I think he'd mesh very well with 87.

You know my thoughts about Kessel and his value as a NHL professional hockey player. Your comment "he scored 80 points with Bozak and JVR". At times, and for long stretches, Kessel was the third best player on his line, even with his higher point total. Other writers on this site, have said Kessel has more upside. He is 28 years old, which traditionally is the height of an NHL career. Personally I like Phil, but I wonder if he is what he is now....25 or so goals a year, 35 assists, despite playing with Crosby or Malkin. Maybe we should be talking about the other pieces of the Kessel trade....Harrington, Spaling, Biggs, Erixon......maybe not.

Last season under Carlyle kessel was playing fantastic. The coaching change really damaged his season and the leafs ended up doing terrible. I believe after watching him play that he is capable of 30g 75 points on a team like Pittsburgh. He has such a high skill level. Although he's very streaky, he is miles ahead of JVR and bozak. I've always been a kessel fan even when he was in Toronto. He's been a fun player to watch. When Pittsburgh aquired him July 1st I was esthatic. I still believe that he will end up meshing with these team with some time. He's too skilled not to. He's in a rut of his career but I believe he'll bounce back. I remember in 2011/12 reporters were saying ovi was done and look at him now. He's playing arguably the best well rounded hockey of his career. Obviously ovi is light years ahead of kessel but I believe that rut applies for both players. I'm confident kessel will bounce out of it.
