If Detroit were to trade Larkin you would not get to protect the 1st round pick. It would be a 1st rounder no matter what this year. The risk Montreal would have to take in order to get a young center who is a 50-60 point scorer. Detroit can afford to sign him long term after this season. Detroit would much rather have the #1 overall pick than a first and second rounder next year.

I disagree. How many years will it take for Dahlin to become a 50-pt guy from the back-end? My guess is not very long. MTL would be dumb to risk losing Dahlin for Larkin, regardless of how desperately they need a center. This protection is for one player. I could see the argument if the pick was top-10 protected or something like that. I think pick 2-7 is a very solid return for Larkin. Still not sure why Detroit would want to trade him though, I thought he was coming along nicely as an all-around center. Detroit's 1st rounder should be plenty high enough to find an impact defenseman in this draft.

laugh laugh Montreal isn't getting the #1 overall pick, Detroit has by far a greater chance of getting the #1 overall pick them Montreal doess. And we're not dealing Larkin to obtain the #1 pick not happening. Larkin is as untouchable as the come no way we're dealing Larkin.

If by "far greater" you mean "slightly lesser"... http://www.tankathon.com/nhl

9 games left both team will flip flop around here a bit, Doubt either even gets a top 3 pick. Any ways Larkin is untouchable if he were to get dealt it would be top 2 RHD/LHD No GM is giving up potentially Rasmus Dahlin for Dylan Larkin.

Don't worry about Larkinisking, I think he doesn't know nothing how the rules draft... This morning MTL 8.5% draft 1st and Detroit 7.6%... So I think Larkin is a very good offense center, but he's very cold in plus/minus...

The draft lottery happens in a couple of weeks, as soon as the season is over. No one is going to be making any trades before that anyway.

So Motreal give up a #1 center unless they get the 1st overall and then, no you wait til next year. Holland might have made some bad signings but this would take the cake. Larkin is 21 and is a budding star, why do you trade those things for what and maybes?

I'm not sure why Detroit would want to trade Larkin, especially for that return

Detroit needs so much help though. Trading Larkin would be counterproductive to their rebuild unless the pick was not protected. Landing someone like Dahlin is the only way Detroit would deal Larkin. With a 2-7 pick Detroit loses a center, and gains a winger or dman. Detroit needs help everywhere, but the most help is needed up the middle and on d. Trading Larkin just increases a positional need, and one where there isn't necessarily a center in the top 10 this year (primarily wingers and dmen).

Still going with that "I have no idea what Im talking about" narrative I see? LOL

Edit before you have a Larkingasm: I meant in regards to the odds of the pick, not the Larkin trade.

I here ya, actually I think that's what I was saying haha. They'd be best to keep Larkin and use their own pick on Bouchard/Hughes/Boqvist.
