Sorry, but I don't see any of these transactions are being possible. Tavares will move, but only if he's the top-paid player -- so think north of $12.5M.

There is nothing in McNiven's development that suggests he can anchor a trade for one of the top captains in the NHL, even one with an insane contract.

The Marner deal is most intriguing of them, but given Montreal's needs, they won't move Weber for anything other than a big C.

Yeah i don't see Tavares signing in Montreal for only $10 million per, It will take at least Connor McDavid money and MB eats $3 million on Weber for the foreseeable future then gives Marner close to $7 million per next summer of 2019 that makes no sense.

I can't see this even being a starting point for a trade with Toronto. The Shannaplan doesn't involve trading a stud 20-yr old for a 32yr old D man on an insane contract (length wise). Keeping $3m of Weber does make him very attractive, but you'll need to go to the next rung of young leafs like brown/kapanen and add a leaf draft pick.

Agreed. Depending on what JT wants out of this free agency....I think he'll either be $10-$11m with a contending team or $11.5-$12.5 with a non-playoff squad with the cap space to spare. Just one man's opinion tho.

There might be a contender with more cap space, depending what W. Karlsson signs for.

True....then it becomes a matter of whether JT views them as legit or not. If they go bring in E. Karlsson in the process...it's a very attractive destination

The second trade may be worse than the first for a whole other set of reasons.

Probably even more attractive if they bring in J. Carlson who, like JT, has a professional relationship with their GM.

But it's entirely possible that both players view this year's results as a bit of a fluke, and still see the team as a rebuild in an untested market whose audience is momentarily intrigued by the novelty of having sports, but might not be ready to make a long term commitment to start players on the level that established markets can, in terms of community involvement, in terms of being a celebrity, or in terms of endorsement deals, especially if the team regresses to merely the sum of its parts next year.

At least, as a Caps fan, I really hope they look at it that pessimistically.

This seems like a mix of rebuilding and mortgaging the future for a cup, which is it?

Given in this Montreal has 2 top centres I think they are fine

Dude you guys really are overpaying him

When he signs with a team watch how it is not 12.5

This isn't the worst that i've seen (i've seen people give him 14.5)

    but 12.5 is to much

Why if chicago is thinking straight they rebuild, they've already won 2 cups and this year is horrid so trade of there pieces now before they are worthless (like weber) and you have to retain tons of salary.

    A top 5 lottery pick

    another 1st rounder

a goaltendering prospect that could be a decent backup or starter

    and 2 3rd

Roy was drafted in the 3rd round

    Gallagher in 5th

    aviddson in 4th

Alll picks matter and for a team like chicago I'd jump on this trade what if say edmonton offered the hawks the same deal but with 2 2nds instead of mcniven and another one to balance out that in my opinion kane is a bit better a more necessary for edmonton

3 top 5-10 picks (chicagos own pick)
    3 2019 first

    2nds

    4 3rds

    and a prospect

    can you say jumpstart rebuild?
