This is based off of the argument that was ongoing in the thread in the NHL forum, of "Who Would You Rather - Ryan O'Reilly or Jonathan Toews"

phillyjabroni agrees with the majority of the thread that O'Reilly is the smarter and better choice, claiming the ability to allocate funds elsewhere as one of his main reasons. HawksFan28 thinks otherwise, claiming Toews' leadership and Cup wins are worthy of being chosen of O'Reilly.

Both decided to do the following challenge: you have $24M. You have to make a lineup consisting of 3 forwards, 2 defenceman, and 1 goalie. No ELCs or players on contracts of $1M or less may be included. Each player must play his position. HawksFan28 is forced to use Jonathan Toews as his center, and phillyjabroni is forced to use Ryan O'Reilly as his center.

They both came up with the following lineups:

HawksFan28:

Josh Bailey (3.3) - Johnathan Toews (10.5) - David Perron (3.75)
John Moore (1.6) - Nate Schmidt (2.2)
Carter Hutton (1.1)

phillyjabroni:

Jason Zucker (2M) - Ryan O'Reilly (7.5M) - Nikita Kucherov (4,766,667M)
Oscar Klefbom (4,166,666M) - Jacob Trouba (2.8M)
John Gibson (2.3M)

Now, it's time for the CapFriendly community to vote: who's team is the better one?

Leadership is very important in hockey. The thing is, O'Reilly also brings leadership, and while not as much as Toews, he is 2 years younger and makes 3M less. I'll take PJ's team.

As a Caps fan, I love Nate Schmidt. And @phillyjabroni is a Flyers fan, and I hate the Flyers. But his team is clearly superior. Aside from center (which is a completely different argument), every position on his team is better except maybe left wing.

@phillyjabroni roster - he went over the cap......

The agreed cap for this competition was 24 million and his salary is 25M....

Are we going to play by rules?

There were players I wanted to fit but just couldn't because I would have gone over..

My team cap: 22.45M

@phillyjabroni cap 25M

You better believe for an additional 2.5 million I can pick up a better defenseman or forward..

And philly went over the 24 million cap with 25 million while I was below it at 22.45 million ...

Dude cheated.... Think what I could do with a team that has an extra 2.5 to spend?

That would change a lot......

Don't look now, but you're repeating our arguments as to why we would choose O'Reilly over Toews, just under different circumstances...

Switch Klingberg with Ellis, his team is still better

Dude, he cheated...

That's not cool...

I was going to chose Yanni Gourde as my LW but he was a million and that was against the rules, just like the rule was it was 24 million dollar cap..

I shouldn't have to tell you that there were rules and they were broken and that kinda defeats this little exercise..

You don't get it.... If we use a 25 cap my team looks completely different..... At 25 million I still have 10% or 2.5 left to upgrade players..

This is bogus..

As the above mentioned. Say he replaces Klingberg with Ryan Ellis or Jacob Trouba. In my opinion, it's still better than yours.

Here's my take:

Bailey > Zucker
Toews = O'Reilly
Perron <<<<<<<<<< Kucherov
Moore <<<<<<<< Klefbom
Schmidt < Ellis/Trouba/Dumba
Hutton << Gibson

Now we're playing by MY rules ...... As a penalty for being a cheater and being dishonest or not knowing math - His team stays at 25, I get to choose a 1 million dollar UFA as a penalty... Because you know if he can stretch rules so can I..

Yanni Gourde (1M) - Jonathan Toews (10.5) - Nikita Kucherov (4,766,667M)

Niklas Hjalmarsson (4.1) - Nate Schmidt (2.2)

Carter Hutton (1.1)

Total salary: 23.666

This is my team and MY team is superior......And it's still under 24 LMAO

None of this changes the fact that dude asked ME to a challenge, set the rules then broke his own damn rules..

Who the hell cheats at their own challenge?

Dude, I made a mistake. I switched it out. Do you really think that your lineup beats mine?

Josh Bailey - Jonathan Toews - David Perron
John Moore - Nate Schmidt
Carter Hutton

vs.

Jason Zucker - Ryan O'Reilly - Nikita Kucherov
Oscar Klefbom - Jacob Trouba
John Gibson

I can do a lot of things but that doesn't change the fact this exerciser went to hell because dude didn't even play by the rules.

Kucherov is an RFA...

What rule did Philly follow?
