And then the following year when Karlsson, Duchene and Dzingel need extensions, Burrows and Pyatt come off the books (you replace them by cheap forwards on ELCs) and then you work on dealing Ryan, Condon and/or Anderson contracts.

Maybe Anderson+Pageau+BR blockbuster?

I'd rather move Boro and Harpur than Claesson. Claesson WIdeman has been rock solid when they've played together.

I am all for getting picks, but personally if Ottawa is to trade Smith for a pick, they will more than likely be going after a Centre in free agency

Everything is possible.

Anderson 1 year left at $4,750,000
Ryan 3 years left at $7,250,000
Pageau 1 year left a $3,100,000

The Sens would have to get a significant contract back or two but with not much term left. The goal is always to reduce salary expenses.

Well, I think it's a matter of preference. Claesson has been really disappointing this year. Harpur is younger, has better tools and some upside. I don't see Boro (cheap contract) being moved.

They wont spend much money. Dealing Smith is to cut more salary. Pageau has proven he can be productive when he played with Stone 2 years ago. He is the "safe option" for 2nd line Center untilone of Brown, Batherson, White or Chlapik are ready. They all have at least 2nd line C potential.

Pageau is not a #2C, the sense will need to pursue a more established scorer on a short term deal to play behind Duchene or it will be a repeat of the past year

Since Brassard has been traded :

19 Games, 6 goals, 3 assists, 9 points (39 pts pace over 82 games)

Problem is that Stone has been injured for a while now (last 12 games). Hard to produce when the only offensive wingers are Hoffman, Ryan and Dzingel but you need to fill 2 lines.

What is interesting is 2015-16 when Turris was shutdown for the season. I think Pageau and Smith were re-united with Stone at the beginning of February.

Last 32 Games : 8 goals, 19 assists, 27 points, + 18 (69 pts pace over 82 games)

Of course, Pageau will never be a 65-70 pts player but he has great chemistry with Ryan and Stone. I could see him producing over 50 pts in a full season playing with those 2.

We're not talking about Pageau the long-term solution at #2C but until Brown, Batherson, Chlapik or even White are ready...
