    Up through the trade deadline, when they brought in reinforcements, the Caps had two of the top ten scoring rookie defensemen. If you're not going to play either, they should be traded to teams weak on defense for something decent. But I'd play them an see what they turn into before i traded a #1 center for a different twenty three year old defenseman who currently has 11 points. Last year Stecher broke 20 points, but 8 were on the power play. He's more experienced than Bowey, but only by one year. The marginal value is almost a net zero because by adding Stecher, you either stick Bowey in the press box and end his development, or lose him on waivers. Since Stecher was an undrafted college kid, while Bowey played for Team Canada at the WJC and went in the 2nd round, you could probably swap one for one if you saw a reason. Since Stecher's 20 point rookie year was also a -16 disaster, I don't see a reason.
