Not exactly think Brock Nelson as nothing, but yes.

Leafs certainly don't need a LWer, like Nelson at the expense of Gardiner and more. Kruger could have picked up on waivers and certainly don't need a 5th string centre making 3m. Sure the Leafs would prefer six years of Zaitsev and the other pieces over two years of Tanev. I understand the Nylander trade, not saying as a Leaf I'd do it, heck maybe even Minni doesn't do it. Really think there is too much upside to 21 year old Nylander. He and Matthews might really be good together.

This is way too much movement for a team that has a great chemistry.

Acquiring Beagle or Kruger is a good idea, for sure. Even both of them, I wouldn't mind.

The trades are problematic, however. First off, Zaitsev is certainly worth Tanev one-for-one. Zaitsev had a bad year, but is younger, plays a lot, and is fast enough for the league. He sure has that kind of market value. And the difference in contract terms matter. I wouldn't mind swapping them, if removing everything else.

Letting Gardiner go would be horrible for the Leafs. He's such an important part of the team's success, and an excellent defenseman all around. I've said it before, but we have one of the the best left-hand D side in the NHL.

And I would also pass on the Min trade for sure. This is a Hall-Larsson kind of trade. The team giving up the elite forward loses.

Leaflet: I'm an ardent Leafs fan. Let's not overdo things. Leafs have a good young offensive LD! NEVER be confused with the best overall LD! (not one of them can PK, or counted on/trusted late in a game). All are too similar, and switching Gardiner out for something that can complement the left side and or RD is something I think Leafs should explore! He, perhaps in a package should hold reasonable value, and Dermott is ready certainly next year to take the next step and assume more responsibility!
