I originally had a '19 3rd going to CAR as well but thought it would mean giving up too much for cap room. Anybody think the CAR trade is not reasonable?
Besides you? I had a heck of a time googling which N. Roy is in Carolina's system.

No. The Caps are not trading Andre Burakovsky and Brooks Orpik for a fourth round pick who plays right wing unexceptionally in the AHL. The Caps have better right wings in the AHL at about the same age. Orpik is an average NHLer with a high salary that he earns with above average toughness, and Burakovsky is an aboveaverage NHLer with a low salary.
If you don't want to return a real player, just type "future considerations." Orpik has one year left and can be bought out to reup Carlson without affecting Backstrom's next contract.
I'd trade the two of them for Sanheim, if you want an estimate in Philadelphia?
Did you see the Caps game last night? Malkin on the doorstep. Empty net. Puck in front. Orpik shoves Malkin aside. No goal because no shot because no puck for one of the toughest centers in the world.
He's not a salary dump. He's a beast, who is getting old, but is still a beast. If the Caps trade his contract, they will expect something back of some value. They could sign a better AHL wing than Nicolas Roy in UFA.

Who is more valuable to the team, Holtby or Carlson?
It's not his favorite team. He's trolling a rival.
