Edmonton, Carolina, Buffalo and Ottawa all hang up the phone. Schlemko's value sure didn't go up this year. Trading Pacioretty+ for a UFA?

No from OTT
NO from ISl (he is UFA... free like nothing to pay!)
Big NO WAY from Edm
... and nothing to add on the Buff one... did you really give Carr and higher picks for Dahlin... seriously!
OUTCH... that was bad!

This isn’t necessarily a projection of bergy is smart, it really looks like we’re banking on all these other GM’s to be clueless

2 Plugs, a late 2 second, and arguably the worst contract in the NHL for Karlsson? I would say Montreal could do better than that, but after looking over their pool of prospects, I don't think they can..

HAHAHAHAHAHA

That first deal takes the cake.

MTL Gives:
Failing prospect
Overpaid 3rd liner cup-winner but with concussion history
Failing prospect
Cheap bottom-6 defensive D that can take on big minutes if need be, but not excel in them.
2nd round pick (At this point, putting in a SECOND instead of a first is just an insult)

MTL Receives:
Young top-4D on RFA
Young #1 Center on 7-yr contract

Worst contract in the league? get real. This trade is a big enough joke, you don't need to reply in kind.
Also, Montreal's NHL ready prospect pool is shallow, but their juniors are good and they have a boat load of good picks this year to add. Again, not that I think its enough for Karlsson, or that Montreal should even what him (given their situation), But do you really have to insult other players and teams instead of just calling the trade for what it is?

Agreed that it's not the worst contract in the league...but it's borderline untradeable....or, more accurately...it would mean that you couldn't trade him for anywhere close to the value he actually brings to the team

For sure. Their best option is waiting a few years and trading to a Cap Floor team. He is still a really good player, and as his salary drops, there would be teams willing to add him for mentoring/leadership/false spending.

The thing is....in 3 more years...he'll still have 5 more on his deal. The length of the contract is the kicker. The best case scenario (and it may actually be an incredible one for Montreal)...is if Weber decides to retire in 4 years or so. The cap hit Nashville would endure if he did that would sink them...enough that they would probably trade Montreal a fortune just to hide him on LTIR somehow.

Comon! I am just calling it how it is. He's a 32 year old on the decline with a 7.8M Cap hit for the next 8 years. On top of that, he is injury prone and lacks foot speed for the new skating NHL.

Does Nashville get penalize if Weber retires?

Oh baby do they ever....it's a penalty system the league put in place to discourage teams from using long-term deals with massive drop offs in actual salary in the final years:

Retirement Yr......NSH Cap Hit
17-18....................$2,730,159
18-19....................$3,071,429
19-20....................$3,510,204
20-21....................$4,095,000
21-22.................... $4,914,286
22-23.....................$6,142,857
23-24.....................$8,190,476
24-25.....................$12,285,714
25-26.....................$24,571,428

What? It's posts like this that gives blowtards like MB confidence that he's doing a good job. No wonder he thinks he has to explain trading to us in NHL17 style terms.

"I am just calling it how it is."
On the Decline + Injury Prone: 2017-18 16 points in 26GP, 2016-17 42 points in 78GP, 2015-16 51 points in 78GP, 2014-15 45 points in 78GP, 2013-14 56 points in 79GP, 2012-13 28 points in 48GP (lockout), 2011-12 49 points in 78GP, 2010-11 48 points in 82GP, 2009-10 43 points in 78GP, 2008-09 53 points in 81GP, 2007-08 20 points in 54GP, 2006-07 40 points in 79GP, 2005-06 10 points in 28GP (Rookie Season)

"I am just calling it how it is."
Lacks Foot Speed: 26GP, 16 Points, -8, 75 Shots, 67 Hits, on an injured foot as main shutdown defenseman on an extremely weak defensive team.

Smart players can still be great players late into their career as their speed diminishes. Chara and Markov are just too recent examples...

So excuse me if your "calling it how it is" is laughable and there isn't a single fact or shred of evidence to support your take.

Did I just hit a sweet spot? I am not arguing about how good a player he was in the past. He's probably going to end up being a Hall of Famer. What I am saying is that I don't like the 7.8M Cap hit for the next 8 years. Also, Markov and Chara are NOT good Weber resembles (Complete different players). I would probably compare him to Seabrook and Phaneuf (who are inferior versions of Weber but still) and who are both free falling off a cliff right now regarding their play. AND, having the opportunity to watch him play live in person multiple times, it became evident that it was just a matter of time before Weber drops off too.

Also, what I think is "Laughable" is how Bergevin traded Subban for him. Yikes.
