Trades
1.
DAL
  1. McElhinney, Curtis
Additional Details:
Moves a goalie and allows Toronto to call up Garret Sparks, who is having an incredible season down in the AHL.
TOR
  1. Nyberg, John
  2. Spezza, Jason ($3,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Stars eat half the salary of a guy who could return to his 2016-2017 form in a more offensive scheme. Sure he may be getting older, but Hitchcock's style of play was not suited for Spezza at all, and it showed. Playing him under Babcock could bring out the production that Spezza had under Lindy Ruff. He's only got 1 year left on his deal, so it wouldn't cause any issues in regards to re-signing Matthews or Marner next offseason. Still a little pricy for a 3C, so Nyberg is a sweetener for this deal. He shows solid potential and has played well in the SHL over the past few years.
2.
DAL
  1. 2019 5th round pick (BUF)
DET
  1. Ritchie, Brett
Additional Details:
Detroit is one of the least physical teams in the league. Ritchie fixes that. He's still young and has room to improve. Slots in well in Detroit's bottom-6.

I like seeing more and more Stars fans signing JVR, but I doubt Spezza is waiving his NTC to go to Canada. Maybe look to Philly and get either Neuvirth or Elliot (preferable Neuvirth in my opinion).

I initially had Philadelphia trading for Spezza, but changed it to Toronto given the fact that he's from the from the Toronto area, Toronto is Stanley Cup contender, and they could have a pressing need in the depth center department. He's only on a one year deal and he'll be off the books when guys like Matthews and Marner are due for their contract extensions. Realistically, Toronto is the only Canadian team Spezza has the possibility of waiving his NTC for.

Was also about to ask about the Spezza trade to T.O. but u already covered that nicely. Not 100% on if T.O. would accept but I do agree that it would be the only team Spezza would waive his contract to. Otherwise, very similar to what I have so nothing more needs to be said.
