So signing Ian Cole and another mediocre at best goalie makes a Tavares stay?

Wow, a .913 save percentage? The Islanders had a goalie that sported a .910 at points in the season and still sucked. It means nothing. They need either really good defense or a really good goalie

Well Ian Cole makes this defense better, he brings much needed defensive awareness.
.913 this year with the avs and .915 with 21 and 19 wins would be a huge upgrade over Greiss. But i agree he's not a start goalie but there really isn't any other really good goalie avaible...maybe Jake Allen? but then the blues would need to get a new starter.

That's seems like a bit steep of a price for Domi to me.

he had a bad season but last year he would have been worth much more so i feel a change of air would be well worth it in his career.

.... Im not sure I agree either. Are you only looking at Bernier stats? Big whoop. He played for a very good Anaheim team last year. If that's your basis, look at Halak's stats before coming to NYI. ELITE but played for very good teams too so you have to look at it form all factors.....

Cole was scratched by Pitts and is a bottom pairing dman in Columbus..... really that's what NYI need?

Are we even talking about the same players here???? If Tavares wants to see better players come in to help the team, you didn't do that. You simply added depth which is fine but its not what NYI need. I like the Domi acquisition though but adding him isn't enough either. Its not like Tavares had crap to play with. Lee had 40 goals this year and Bailey had career highs in assists and points....

They need better defence and goaltending. Staying realistic these are the best options for this team while staying under the cap. Bernier is a big reason why the Avs made the playoffs this year, his stats are okay and damn he made them win so it's not just about his save% but also if the team wins in front of him which happened in the last 2 years.
Cole was the better d-man for their last cup-run. He is defensive, he dosen't get on the pp or to get the team back in a game. The isles got Pulock, Leddy, Boychuk and possibly Aho to play the offensive side of the game.

Tavares said he wanted to stay and i don't think you need to make a massive overhaul to convince him. You just need to show him your serious, you have a plan about getting better really soon and i think he's the type of guy that just wants to stay with the team that drated him and made him their franchise player, a bit like Stammer.

I'm siding with all the other comments so far...this wouldn't move the needle at all as far as convincing JT to stay. Ian Cole is a 6th/7th d-man. Bernier is best used (and paid) as a backup for the remainder of his career. Max Domi has played 3 years in the NHL and...while the first year gave hope that there might be great things to come...the next two were barely satisfactory. He's a borderline reclamation project at this point as opposed to a guy that will convince your captain to stay on board.

I'd be looking at guys like Holtby, Karlsson, Carlson or JVR as guys to bring in to try and convince JT to stay....I think he'd sign for closer to $10m if the team was able to add one or two major names.

Well im trying to stay realistic lol if you wana dream that Carlson will sign there and that the caps will trade their star goalie to a divisonal rival fair enough but that's not realistic. And by the way the Isles don't have the cap space to get those guys anyways...

Tavares wnats to stay there, he said it many times just like Stammer. He just need to see that he will be able to win with this team in the future which dosen't require a massive overhaul.

Of course he's going to say he wants to stay...how do you want him to comment?...but a guy that responds with "I don't know" when asked about his future isn't really instilling a lot of confidence he'll actually do so.

You're saying the Isles don't have the cap space to add anything significant so they have to be realistic about where they improve. That's fair...but if you're a superstar in the league that gets to choose where you want to play...are you going to pick a team that really doesn't have the capacity to get any better other than drafting and developing? If he re-signs it would be out of loyalty...not because Cole, Domi or Bernier convince him the team is committed to winning.

If your girl is gonna leave you...buying a new shirt from Old Navy and taking her to Swiss Chalet for dinner is not going to change her mind.

Like I said, they are good depth additions but would that be good enough to convince a superstar to say with the team if he were considering elsewhere? I really don't think so. And if it is, it will be very easy to appease JT in this negotiation. That shouldn't be too hard to do.

i get your point that i didn't make any major changes that would make this team signficantly better and convince a superstar player to stay if he only looked at those changes.
I'll try make another a-gm where i'll get bigger changes for JT to stay.

I don't think you need to. What you did was fine. I just didn't agree that "making Tavares stay" meant adding Bernier and Cole and to a lesser extent Domi but they lost Nelson and in the process which decreases the upgrade Domi is giving you.
