In order for this team to truly succeed, and on a long-term basis, they can't cut corners and that might mean the end for Leon Draisaitl as an Oiler. The potential return you could get for him, say to a Nashville, Carolina, Arizona or Montreal that are dying for 1st line centers would put the Oilers firmly in the drivers seat as far as deals go. A healthy RNK is, or should be, a good second line center. Dealing Draisatl would also likely help the Oilers desperately revamp their defense.

Agreed ?I think you could get Faulk & Skinner for LD, which solves the elite finisher for McDavid and top pair defenseman issues. Nuge is solid 2C, the last of the old kids, and a good Red Deer boy... and Drai isn’t as effective away from McDiggity. This could be the first time Chia actually makes a trade that favors EDM.

ED needs a puck moving right D, but Falk+Skinner is the only package close 2 worthy of receiving LD.

I don't think trading LD or RNH is the answer. Mcdavid and them we're the reason Oilers offense kept going at 5v5. I believe I filled the biggest needs with the cap space I. That's why I only targeted Faulk this year and brought in a great backup. Wingers hopefully bounce back a bit but wingers can be aquired in FA.

As much as I like Skinner, he would be 1 year away from UFA status and would probably be looking for a contract in at least the $6 million range. It's really hard to make predictions for established top-pairing defenseman but their value is hard to determine. Right off the bat, I'd think Edmonton would want back Aho or Lindholm, Bean or Fleury and 1 of the Canes top-4 D, not sure which one that could be. For that to happen, Edmonton may have to include a top pick in this or next year's draft.
