Do we have what it takes to pull off this turnaround...

Created by: IslesTime
Team: 2018-19 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 29, 2018
Published: Apr. 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bring back DeHaan on 1yr "prove it again" deal.

WASH get top return for Grub and Isles get starting goalie they need.

OTT trade works for both teams as Sens get more production and flexibility with ability to free up some money to resign Stone. Isles get #3C and second pair RD they need.

Think Ladd and JGP can cover for any of JHS defensive woes and he will be able to play his game to make that line productive.

Isles still has some $$ flexibility to make some tweaks or buy at next year's deadline.

Depending on salary cap, they will prob need to make a call between Lee and Ebs by end of next year but expect strong return for either if forced to trade.

My projection for 1st and 2nd Rd picks -
Joe Veleno
Noah Dobson or Bode Wilde
Nando Eggenberger (cuz I like the name..)

I like it! Very realistic. If I was Ottawa or Washington I would accept both deals.

If the Isles got all of this done before the draft, I'd think that make Tavares re-sign. And you pulled it off without losing a 1st rounder or an essential piece. Losing Bellows hurts, but Grubauer would be a legitimate starter for years to come. I think the value on the Ottawa trade is a tad low. Maybe throw in one of our many left-shooting defensemen? Wotherspoon and Vande Sompel still have decent trade value.

    But that's a nit pick. Easily a 5/5.

As a Sens fan, and following the team, I feel that Pageau is too loved by the fan base, and I could see Smith in that deal before Pageau.

I think the Sens want to get younger more than they want to bulk up and gain experience. I have no idea, though. They've traded their first round pick for next year, so they also might as well do whatever helps them win a few more games. I think you've traded way more than enough to land Pageau, but not enough for Ceci.

Bellows and picks for Grubauer sounds good for Washington. He should indeed be a starting goalie for years to come, probably pretty inexpensively.

I've seen higher offers for him on here, but that seems like a good baseline minimum of what Washington should accept.

Obviously the Caps have heard of Tavares, and have some idea that he's the real return. I agree with the Isles fans above that the Islanders would be lucky to land a starter without trading either high first pick this year. I guess it comes down to whether Grubauer gets himself going in the playoffs. If he shows he can win a round, I don't think that second is enough picks. If he doesn't get another chance, or goes on a cold streak and out.... then this is probably in the range of what anyone offers for him, and Washington is probably fine with something in this ballpark after that. Of course, if Grubauer falls apart against Columbus, the Isles might not want him.

Are there other proven starters out there who could convince Tavares to stay in that event? Is Lehner good enough? Can the Isles afford Holtby? Or if Tavares is gone, is there a chance to swap eight year contracts with Washington, give both rich guys named John a fresh start on a max term deal at a sort of high cap hit, and have each team come away with someone new to build around, before free agency starts?

Personally, I think the likelihood of a Caps / Isles trade are slim to none but Holtby has NTC and I would prefer Grubs from cost and control perspective. As for the "Johns" trade, sorry but thats a no-go. Maybe for a different RD named Karlsson... wink
