Messin' Around...Like the team does in the playoffs

Description
I was just trying to see what kind of team I could build under the cap while trying to rebuild quickly before Ovi/s window in Washington closes for good. This also involves a new coach...one that preferably uses the young speed and skill instead of old slow and punisher players.

I hope I'm not too far off in contracts in trades, maybe the VGK is the worst one but maybe GMGM does it to help Ovi since he shot Washington with the Forsberg trade.

Nicky plays RW on the top line and periodically plays 3C to help with the face-offs if Stephenson struggles. He's too good to only get 3rd line minutes so that's why he's on the top line.

Defensively, the young guys get a lot more playing time and start to develop into solid NHL players.

Five stars, for answering the question I couldn't figure out in three posts yesterday: if Carlson and Tavares agree to trade teams, how do the Caps get a right defenseman who can play twenty minutes and still fit under the salary cap with a playoff team.

I'd probably swap Backstrom and Stephenson at evens, because Backstrom is so good at defense and faceoffs, and at helping TJ Oshie score 33 goals in a season, his career high.

After McPhee took on half of Brassard's salary to get a healthy scratch enforcer off Pittsburgh's books and into Vegas' press box, I'm done expecting "friend prices." Let's just assume he hates Washington with the fury of a sixty-something man-child who has only lost one job in his sheltered life.

Barrie costs a lot more than two 2nds.

Vegas has a lot of young G in their system, but Grubauer might give them the solid 1-2 punch (w/Fleury) that they would want, as opposed to a bunch of ??? guys.

Good points. But I really like the roster above. Do you know what would actually move Barrie?

    A UHaul... BAZINGA!

Obviously I have no idea what it would take to move anybody, just my opinions. But... Barrie is a multi-time 50+ point D, an ice time eater. As Caps picks are at the end of the rounds (meaning a 1st is only a couple away from being a 2nd) it would start with 1st's, not 2nd's. A Caps 1st is a lot different than a Carolina 1st (for example). That's a problem when you finish high in the standings, your picks value in trades drops significantly.

I know Colorado has a lot of depth in the blue line with Makar and Timmins in their prospect pool. Maybe a 1st and 2nd and a forward prospect? like Barber? I wouldn't really want to give them a caps d prospect since I don't think Colorado would really need it?

They were so close to making the playoffs this year. I don't think they bite for picks and prospects. Probably have to throw in Connolly or Stephenson, too.

    Thanks!

I do feel like McPhee hates Washington...which is weird since I thought Ovechkin lived at his house when he was drafted? You'd think there would be no hard feelings. I thought the Vegas deal could help vegas with no musical chairs for the backup goalie and connolly "replaces" Tuch so I hope I got the value right.

I could definitely see McPhee still wanting to help Ovechkin win a Cup....
