Still, Orpik got more points, minutes, and a better plus/minus this year. I'd maybe go with Orpik/Russell on 2nd pair, and Sekera, MacDonald on 3rd.

Also, Cory Schneider looks really bad by comparison with Kinkaid, who had one more start, four more wins, better spct, and better GAA at a quarter the aav, and shorter term.

Lehtonen's a bargain, by comparison.

Honorable mentions should be given to Steen, Weber (becaude of term and age) and Ladd because of term. Several of contracts expire even though they are terrible.

Sekera was injured, not a bad contract at all.

PRICE should be on here for sure.

It's not that he had a bad year, even. Kinkaid only got like, three more wins than him. But how much term does he have left to be a $6M backup?

And Lehtonen's contract might be high, but it's over, so we need a goalie, here.

Can you explain this logic to Caps fans confused about why it cost a top prospect to pry Martin Erat away from Nashville? Because... sometimes people come back from midcareer injuries, and sometimes they don't. Ata certain point, if Orpik had a better season at a lower cap hit with a third of the remaining term, and gets daily jokes on here for being overpaid.... then Sekera's contract is currently awful, even if it might improve.

Not sure what you're trying to say here... overpaid is a relative term, but shouldn't be applied to injured players. If McDavid gets injured in game 1 next season and never plays again, should we consider that "one of the worst contracts ever signed"? Of course not, because the signing / acquisition happened BEFORE the injury - i.e. the GM couldn't have had knowledge of this at the time of signing the player.

If the criteria is one bad year, clearly Carey Price is the goalie of choice. Results of a third-stringer and $84M still owed... ouch. cry

As you can see there is alot of players who will be done after this year. But I put them on here to show how dumb the GM was to sign them to such a big contract in the first place. Like Bolland and Lupul are horrible ones.

With all the goalie controversy on this thread, I have to say that I agree with the others, when they said that Schneider and Price were just having bad years. I still have lots of faith in Price and Schneider as strong starters. I chose Lehtonen because he had gotten signed to a 5 year (I think) large contract and he didn't do very much in Dallas through those 5 years.

Wait till bob makes 8-9 mill then talk. elite players like price dont sign contracts according to positional conterparts caps, but their value to the respective franchise. jeff jackson who is connor mcdavids agent, was on a recent 31 thoughts podcast and explained how elite players and their contracts are determined, i'd recommend u listen to that instead of barking useless stuff

McDavid is 21. Price is 30. Both signed 8 year contracts at unprecedented money. McDavid responded with his best season ever (so far), Price is coming off his worst ever. I'll let you decide which is the better bet going forward.

Anyhow, my point was simply this: if 1 year of poor performance is the key ingredient to getting on this list, Price deserves a spot. That's all.

ur still not getting my point about the contracts. elite players contracts are determined by their worth to the franchise. and in terms of him having a bad year, he started the year off injured, then left for a while, came back, had another injury. most nhl players lose it if they dont play 1 week of hockey. goalies are even more diff then that. they take even more time to get ready to play. i dont blame him one bit. he'll come back strong next year. like even last season, in terms of his standards, he was just great, not elite, yet him being great, is considered elite among goalies and is vezina nomination worthy. if this last says 1 year of poor performance then ryan johanssen should be on this list too. he only had 54 points while playing on arguably the leagues best team. and he makes 8 mill a year.
