all these Parayko for Nylander

Created by: LGBstl
Team: 2018-19 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 19, 2018
Published: Apr. 19, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Been saying it all year that the Blues need a Johansen for Jones like trade to obtain a young elite center. PArayko is not Seth Jones and Nylander is not as certified as a center as Ryan Johansen so the value is there.

Also allows for plenty of room to take a run at Tavares or to beef up on D.

Personally I'd hold onto Parayko.

How about Parayko for Marner? Seems like a better fit

What? Did you say Parayko for Johansen?

I think Washington could handle that....

Who is going to step up behind Pietrangelo though? Parayko is a perfect top 4 D behind him, and the STL D core is already kind of thin with Bouwmeester and Gunnarsson declining. I guess they'll have to go after Carlson or a capable top 4 D in a separate trade. Letting Shattenkirk go was a mistake if this is their plan. He fit well in STL more than anywhere else.

This would not be my first choice of players to target if moving Parayko, but think it would make sense to do.

You're right - the Blues just don't have the depth at defense, in the NHL or in the prospect pool, to be trading away good defensemen. Sure, if we signed John Carlson or somebody we'd fill the gap, but why wouldn't the team trading for Parayko just sign Carlson. Plus, all of our best prospects are forwards. This just seems like we'd be chasing our tails. It's awful hard to find good defenseman - the Jones/Johansen swapped worked because the Preds had 4 great defenseman already. And honestly, it didn't even work; they're paying a fortune for their 1C and Jones outscored him from the blue line this year.

I think 2 x 60-pt seasons at age 21 should get Nylander a little bigger paycheck, but I guess we'll see soon enough.

I think he was already in love with a New Yorker. You want to talk about mistakes? Trading a first for someone who never entertained a thought of staying in Washington. But who knew?

Marner who 20 years old.....22 goals, 69 points probably isn't available either. Nylander and/or Marner seems just like laternal transfer at best for the Leafs. The Leafs don't have centre prospects and Bozak/Plekanec/Moore are likely all leaving this summer, so Nylander just might be needed too at centre. Maybe the Leafs just wait a year or two and see who available as a UFA, Ellis and Pietrangelo might be favoured targets.

Those teams would trade for Parayko because he's younger and locked up for four more years at a reasonable price. That being said, why should the Blues trade him when he can grow in our system for the next few seasons? I'd hold on to him unless you're getting a center back

Agreed on the center point I would rather have a more established center.
