Sabres say no, unless youre willing to drop that first. Aint no way in hell they're giving up a first for a goalie for a loooong time. Especially one coming off a terrible season no matter what his name is

The trades really aren’t all too bad, but if the caps are selling off all their vets why would a UFA like Tavares want to go to washington? Also, no chance in the world Carlson is signed for that little, at least 2m per year off on his contract.

34 wins might not be enough forUllmark, Girgensons, and a 1st and 2nd, but calling it terrible just sounds ridiculous.

Holtby maybe worth all of that, but IMO Botterill would ride the GK ponies he has before trading for one.

3.00 GAA .907 Sv% coming to a team that doesn't have Ovechkin to bail him out. He didn't have a good year, by his own standards, it was terrible.

I think you got too much in return for Holtby and I think you got way too little for Backstrom.

I'd like to think you got too little for Ovi but hard to fathom what he'd actually fetch in a trade.

The Sabres have invested system resources and years into developing Linus Ullmark. He has done everything you could ask of a young net minder and has done it with a smile and great attitude. There is no way the organization will ship him off in a trade along with a 1st & 3rd Round pick in 2019.

I know that some on CF disagree with me but I contend that the Sabres will be picking in the top 5 of the 2019 draft there is no way GMBots will deal that pick unless it is a young impactful positional player. Now he would be willing to deal the SJS 1st round pick (assuming kane signs in San Jose).

Put yourself in GMBots position would you really want to deal the goalie he has stated will be his #1 goalie in 2018/2019 (he is under team control.

Holtby coming off a pedestrian season which is why you want to trade him and at a cap hit of $6,100,000 for 2 seasons...... it just does not make sense from the Sabres organizational progression.

Definitely an off year for a multiple Vezina winner, and the Sabres definitely arent' trading those pieces for any goalie.

But Washington lost two first pair defensemen and a 2nd pair defenseman last summer, and replaced them with a 2nd and a 7th round pick from their farm system. The 2nd rounder had missed last year in the AHL with injuries.

Yes, Ovechkin sometimes bails out Holtby. In game three against Columbus it was the other way around, and I'd still rather see the Caps not trade Holtby at all. The opportunity cost is that if they can't afford to sign all their guys, they might lose Grubuer or Wilson for nothing. Luckily,, about five teams want a goalie, and it's possible Washington trades both their goalies, with each one bringing back that much value.

I totally agree that trade won't happen. You're just insulting Holtby to insult yourself.

Again I didn't say Holtby is terrible, I have twice now said that THIS YEAR was a bad year for Holtby

Ayy at least we got discussion instead of 1 star rating. I dont think this is realistic, but I do think some housecleaning is necessary if they get eliminated AGAIN. Time for some new leadership with a rebuild IMO
