What's missing in Minnesota?

Created by: lavsim96
Team: 2018-19 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 21, 2018
Published: Apr. 21, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The wild have been making the playoffs every year since 2013 and yet they have not been able to go beyond the second round in all those years.
What needs to change to make this team go deep in the playoffs?
For me it's obvious Boudreau needs to get fired, i never liked his coaching style and he's never winning a Stanley Cup.

dumba and zucker will get more than that. they have 15m tied up with parise and sutter, they sign koivu who hasn't scored 20 goals since 09-10 season and 60 points since the same season to 2 more years through 37 with nmc, they don't have a elite #1C, there only elite scorer they have on the team is turning 34 and about to get paid pretty damn well, along tyler ennis, foligno, coyle's bad year, nino\s bad year, etc. wild need to deconstruct in order to construct again.

How is Staal not a #1 center after the 2 seasons he just had? Granlund is really good too for me that's a good center line.
Only thing i see wrong with this team is their lack of good right wingers. All their guys are pretty much left-handed apart from Kunin. Maybe getting an elite RW is a solution?

I would suggest you go back to your old trade partner Buffalo Sabres and look to acquire ROR.

In the deal you include Ennis, Koivu, possibly Spurgeon (to save $5,000,000 in cap) even with ROR $7.5 the savings from moving those 3 players is over $14 Million. Now what piece(s) would you need to include in the deal for the Sabres to take on those contracts...... I will let you decide.

I think what your team needs to do is purge the bad contracts giving up a piece(s) which will be a step back in order to move forward in 2019/2020.

ok fine. but the dude is turning 34 he is going to slow down someday. he is the only good scorer on this team. it will take more than a elite RW. they need to get rid of parise which isn't happening, they should move on from koivu, get rid of ennis, foligno, etc before even thinking of getting any improvements.

Honestly I'm bewildered as well. On paper, they have all the pieces they need, from the three F positions, to D, to G.

I don't know if coaching IS an issue, but in these instances, that's the first place I'd look into. Not just Boudreau, but the entire unit. Does it have to do with the play style imposed?

The roster isn't bad, they just don't have any players step up in the playoffs. Their only good playoff player is Parise, who rarely is healthy by playoff time. Fletcher always hands out bad contracts, and can't make trades. He is the problem.

Easy answer, they need a stud. Someone who has true superstar pedigree and can control a game by themselves..

I think as most wild fans should see by now that this is not a coaching problem and more of a player problem with the gm. it has shown the past few years that this team lacks the high end talent to compete when it really matters. they need to rebuild now to gain young skilled prospects and get picks for what you can.

They did not deserve more. Especially Zucker, who scored zero !!! points playing in the first link. The Dumba in defense can not play.

The main problem with that logic is that Granlund hasn't played center in more than 2 years now. He's been a full time RW since the beginning of March 2016. That's just under 200 games (regular and postseason) since he's played up the middle. He's not going back there any time soon.

You are correct that we could use a couple more right handed shots on the team however we have a few guys (like Granlund) who prefer to play that side anyway and actually play better there than on the left side.

Coaching is far from our problem. We've had roughly the same core for 6 seasons now. We've also had 2 head coaches and an interim. They've all given us basically the same postseason results.

Yeo didn't work in the 4.5 years he was here. Torchetti didn't do much as an interim. Bruce has been here 2 years now. Bruce's system is very different from Yeo's system in the Yeo sacrifices everything in the name of defense. Bruce allows players to take risks as long as they are responsible whereas Yeo stifled a lot of our young players and their offensive potential. Under Bruce, we've scored at rates this franchise has never seen before and had the best regular season in franchise history last year along with this year being the 3rd best despite massive injuries throughout the season.

the wild won't get anywhere with the roster they have. they must tear down and rebuild or else they will suffer the same fate for several more years. they might as well try to sacrifice some time to become an elite team rather than being slaughtered every year in the playoffs.
