This seems like a good time to trade Simmer, he did not play well down the stretch, and will want a new deal by the end of next season. I think Hexy cashes in now, or at the trade deadline. Not opposed to keeping him if we can make a serious push.

With all the cap space, I'd see if you can sign some guys to one year deals to push for a cup.
Keep Simmonds, they have the space, trade Lethera instead, if you can...
Maybe add Thornton and Vanek/Neal/Perron to 1 year deals.

Giroux-Cout-Konecny
Lindblom-Patrick-Voracek
Simmonds-Thornton-Perron
Weal-Laughton-Leier

You could probably sign Mrazek on the cheap 2/$3mil, or trade his rights.

As is, I like the idea of having younger guys in the lineup and I like the defense.

Ahh, I was waiting for an overreaction roster to show up on here. Some fair points about coaching though. Lappy indeed looks best suited as a player development guy. To add, we sure did miss Joe Mullen running the power play, didn't we just now? Not that we get as many opportunities as deserved, but it sure would be nice to see our guys out there executing with confidence on the PP.

what did I overreact to? Neuvy can't stay healthy. I don't think I overreacted to Simmonds, I understand the notion to keep him, thats why I said trading him at the deadline is a possibility(unless we have a legit shot at the cup of course)

I wouldn't mind Thornton on a one year deal, but those other guys want term, and Hexy isn't going to dish that out

Plus if we resign Mrazek, we give up a 3rd, Hexy isn't going to do that with the way he played down the stretch, nor should he. Trading his rights is a good idea, I forgot about that

Thinking Wayne Simmonds is only worth a 7th round pick is a negative overreaction.

Yeah, half my bad there. I saw your trade as for a 7th and figured that's what you meant. Then I saw the "anything" language. I understand what you are getting at: now is the time to turn a page. That's fine and I understand the arguments for doing that. It's not the same as saying the Flyers need to trade Simmonds and accept anything for him though. (edit) FWIW I happen to think he is best suited for third line minutes and special teams, but should be pulled out if he's injured. Guy hurts the team when playing injured more than he helps.

Fair point, definitely think he could thrive in that role
