- A two way defenseman that likely wouldn't even have a place in our top-4 (Honka, Klingberg, Lindell, Heiskanen)
- A backup goalie, which the Stars can get cheap on the FA market
- A 1st round pick NEXT year
- A 5th round pick in 2020

All for one of the best players in the game?

I'm sorry, but this deal is ridiculous. Dallas has a log-jam at defense as it is and can get a backup through free agency. Sure, Grubauer might be better than the guys via FA, but the difference between him and the FA goalies is absolutely not worth losing one of the elite scorers in the game. This deal makes absolutely zero sense for Dallas.

And don't even get me started on the Benn deal. A 6th round pick, a worse defenseman than the one listed above, and a couple of picks in later drafts? Yeah, Dallas laughs at you and then hangs up the phone.

Whether or not the trade is fair, it does the Stars no good to trade Seguin for 3 1st Round Picks. Even if it's similar to Kessel deal, Seguin is better and more valuable than Kessel. Plus, the circumstances were different, Kessel needed to be traded, Seguin doesn't.

@jsanders, they can easily trade grubi for a first and you also forgot the 2018 first so that’s 3 first, a fifth, and 2nd round drafted d, and a top NCAA prospect

You compared both of your big trades to the Kessel trade. The thing that you forgot was that Kessel wanted out of Toronto, and more importantly Toronto wanted to get rid of Kessel. Neither of those are true of Benn/Seguin and Dallas.

... and Kessel is no Benn. One could argue a Kessel/Seguin comparison, but even there you probably go Seguin 99 times out of 100.

@biglite351 I totally agree with you but Dallas is not going to win the cup with the team they have let’s be honest, they don’t have enough depth. Benn and seguin are both going to want to win a cup and if they trade away benn and seguin then they can also trade away klingburg to a team such as colorado or soemthing.

Who is giving up a 1st for RFA Grubauer? It would cost a 2nd round pick compensation to just sign him flat out.

But if they do move Benn and/or Spezza, it will be for much better return than Toronto got in the Kessel trade.

Them moving Benn would be like the Caps moving Ovechkin 4 years ago.

It’s actaully totally different because the caps have depth where Dallas doesn’t

I am talking about the size of the deal that it would take to make the move. Do you think that Washington would have moved Ovechkin for a deal the level of the Kessel trade?

I think Toronto was being silly in what they asked for but they still are getting 2 1st, a 3rd, a top NCAA prospect and a 2nd round d prospect who wouldn’t get time palying for caps

So you want Dallas to trade away not only Benn and Seguin, but Klingberg as well? Those are 3 elite players. And you want the Stars to trade them because they don't have the depth to go far in the playoffs? Depth players are so much easier to get than an elite scorer, let alone 3 of them. Dallas gets Nichushkin back next season. If Dallas goes ahead and signs JVR, Neal, Perron, etc. this offseason then their depth issues are more than solved. Why on earth would the Stars give away their superstars when depth is fairly easy to acquire in the NHL, especially this offseason?

I just don't understand any of the logic behind why Dallas would move any of these guys, let alone all 3.

I agree with everything that everyone else is saying. This makes no sense. Period. IMO u can't compare a trade to another. Every Player is different, every GM is different and every teams needs are different. Dallas needs depth not to rebuild. Depth is 100x easier to get than Elite or Superstar players hence why more minor trades are made. I would also be willing to argue that this makes no sense for Washington. This is just bad.
