Realistic SJ sign and trade

Created by: Odin
Team: 2018-19 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 25, 2018
Published: Apr. 25, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
People thinking teams will give top prospects to NYI for a sign and trade are crazy. If JT would do a sign and trade with a team he'd also wait two days and sign as a free agent.

This one at least makes sense.
JT sign and trade. SJ agrees to take Ladd. I think He'd fit in with Deboer.
NYI get Dell who will help them but not a huge loss to SJ. NYI takes Martin to help with SJ cap because they're aren't going to compete without JT anyway and his contract is better for them than Ladd because he's off the books after next year.

It's a SIGN AND TRADE. That means JT is leaving and the Islanders need to get what they can for him. It's not a straight trade.

You sign JT and tell SJ if they want him, they’re going to trade you good value for him. Doesn’t need to be amazing, but needs to be good enough.

That's not how it works. You agree to the trade before JT signs. JT would let himself be held hostage by a team he doesn't want to play for.

I know how it works, just am saying that isles have 0 reason to get a bad return for him. This is a bad return even though it’s better than nothing.

If he tells them he is leaving, that he's signing with SJ and they have no chance, getting a capable goalie and a cap dump is a good return. Much better than him walking for nothing.
