Montreal need goal scoring and they are not getting it in this trade.
I dont think Vegas touch this. Tuch is way more valuable than Skinner since he's cost controlled. Add Suzuki, last year's 13th overall, a 1st and a 4th. That's a package for John Tavares.

Dumping one year of Orpik is not worth losing Gruby for basically nothing...Caps could instead just buy out Orpik and trade Gruby for a 1st rounder.

Agree Habs can't afford to lose scoring. Suggest Carolina adds it's #1 this year and the Habs add a low #2. That would allow the Habs to use their top pick on a scorer and grab up a decent Dman later in the first.

I think that’s a bit much. While I agree that Vegas may value Tuch more than this, trading a 25 yr old 30+ goal scorer certainly gets a nice return. You are grossly underestimating Skinner’s value as well. Furthermore, until the Habs get a legit top 6 centericeman, they won’t improve scoring. You have to build through the middle and they’ve been trying it the other way with predicable results. Goalie➡️ D ➡️ Centers, building from the goal out and if they don’t win the JT sweepstakes they’ll be in the same shape.

I’d be surprised if he gets a 1Rd pick, that’s pretty optimistic.

Still, 2 2nd rounders or a 2nd and 3rd would be better than packaging him with Orpik.

Perhaps but in recent years back ups ready to be starters go for 3Rd picks so I’ll give a you a 2Rd pick. But if they fail to sign Carlson because of cap issues and keep Orpik, they deserve their fate.

A buyout will cost 2.5 million in year 1 and 1.5 in year 2 so there´s enough space to sign Carlson. Since Orpik is a cheap buyout his trade value is higher than other old players on bad contracts.

RFA goalies ready to be starters generally go for 1st rounders (for example Jones and Andersen).

Yep.

Washington can buy out Orpik and have a 2.5M cap hit. Carolina could actually use Orpik. Washington could too if they could afford him.

I think the conversation starts with Orpik for Kruger. Orpik earns 1M more next year in salary but has a 2M higher cap hit (which doesn't affect a team that isnt' building all the way up to the salary cap). He also plays in the NHL, which Kruger doesn't.

Washington throws in a 4th pick and then buys out Kruger.

Jones, Andersen, Varlamov, Lehner, Schneider.

Interested to hear your counterexamples, and how they compare to Grubauer, who took Bobrovski to overtime in two playoff starts and had, by one analysis, a better season than him. https://www.russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2018/04/09/philipp-grubauer-maybe-best-goalie-league-look-behind/
