Trade Down (Detroit?)

Description
Should the habs trade down from their 3rd overall pick to Detroit's 6th overall? Would Detroit be interested in doing this?

I have 6 players I would like to see Montreal draft; Dahlin, Svechnikov, Bouchard, Zadina, Walhstrom, Tkatchuk. Montreal would be guaranteed to get on of those players if they did this trade (although they probably won't have the freedom to choose which one) and they could also get another good prospect late in the first round.

Basically the net result would be one of Bouchard, Walhstrom, or Tkatchuk instead of Zadina.. and another late round player (Alexeyev, Kaut, Thomas, Merkley, etc.)

As a wings fan, I'd say yes to this deal but only if Zadina goes to Carolina.

And if not? I'm already assuming Svechnikov is going to Carolina as I think he is a better player than Zadina (and so do you I take it haha).

The difference between the 3rd and the 6th is way bigger than a late 1st round pick that at the end of the day worth a second. Replace this first by Mantha and it might works. MB has said that it would takes a really, really big offer to trade a prospect that will play next season.

Depends on how you see it. Bergevin was quoted to say there isn't much difference between 2 and 5. Walhstrom will be as good as Zadina (but he is committed to NCAA next year), Bouchard is way under the radar this year because of Dahlin.. he blows the pants off Sergachev. Tkatchuk would also be a good player (although I would prefer the other 2). The difference between picks 3 and 6 could be a wash and Montreal could steal Detroit's late 1st.

Detroit won't go for 6th and Mantha for a 3rd.. that's just crazy. But there is probably an area between that and my initial offer that the two teams could settle on.

If Detroit trades down they would be looking to take second overall to unite the Svechnikov brothers

I don't really see that happening, yeah it would be cool, but they would have to pay more to get 2nd overall. Both brothers play the same position, it's not like they will have some sort of chemistry like the Sedin twins, they probably wouldn't even play together.

this is a good idea to the value of draft picks:

If you do that.. I'll ask Nyquist as well....
because Zadina will help Detroit next year... and not Whalstrom... so Nyquist would be a good commitment for next year.

I agree with this theories only if it doesn't include TOP 3 OA (depending of year draft but this year everyone is saying 1OA= Franchise, 2-3= TOP NHL ready Player, 4-10= Great Prospect in 1or2years only)
So we need to add points to the top 3 of this theory and No#6 + No#27 look almost fair... need to add in little but not much. (Like Nyquist cool)

Cool read, I was looking for something like this but couldn't find anything.. so it seems like a 3rd for a 6th and 27th is the right value according to that chart.

This is exactly why I want to trade down, I don't believe Montreal can turn this team around into a contender in just one year.. wahlstrom will be just a good as zadina, he is just committed to the NCAA next year.

I know bergevin wouldn't be keen on this because if they miss playoffs again habs fans will freak out, but I think this would be a better move for the team looking ahead 2-3 years.
